@DougLiman please Jumper 2, with an older and wiser Hayden Christensen, accidentally making his first time-jump, inadvertently causing the formation of the Paladins
I just rewatched Fringe after 12 years. @thejohnnoble the way you portrayed Walter, balancing his childlike wonder, profound grief, and sometimes terrifying genius made him one of the most compelling characters in television history. I Just wanted to say than you.
@toddtempleman Indeed, we are inundated with disinformation in today's world. Verification and fact-checking are essential, as is ensuring content is human-made.
You should check out the ending of MGS2. Like your work, it has eerily predictive elements relevant to our current situation
My own sci fi work has been based in a near future setting, pre-lightspeed travel, so within our own Solar System.
I loosely based a character on Thomas Sowell.
In my fiction, he lives in Olympus City, Mars, and founded the Notary Corps: a private org. of anonymous clerics, trained to verify and record agreements, transcripts of meetings, and treaties at a level impervious to deepfake. They have special ships to allow multiple parties separate docking and rapid egress. For obvious reasons, these future notaries are also trained to resist torture.
Just watched the media over the last few weeks insist at the bidding of the executive branch that real videos were fabricated. Those most responsible for verifying true and false regardless of their own politics, sprinting to get it wrong as fast and breathlessly as possible. Deepfake tech is close, but not yet perfect, and the professionals in charge of defending us against it are first in line to use it, in our world now.
Maybe just space fantasy, but it’s getting more obvious to me that the demand for a real Notary Corps will grow extreme, soon.
@mvaldesdeleon To expand on that, I think many of the people we consider "geniuses" are actually well-connected individuals in the right moment. My mother used to say that human behavior and thought cannot be understood outside the specific historical and cultural contexts in which they arise
@toddtempleman The Chamachies and Snovedomas (the mammoth-like race) themes still play in my head once in a while. The compositions were so immersive and memorable. It added a unique and unforgettable atmosphere to the game. Thanks for letting your brother know and take care!
I know it's been ages, but I just wanted to say a huge thank you to @toddtempleman (and your brother) for creating Ascendancy. I dreamed (or remembered in a dream?) about playing that game last night. Your creation has brought so much joy and inspiration to me!
