Today I am signing off as the Secretary of Education, my dream job. What I used to tell my students on the last day of school is that this isn’t goodbye, but rather a celebration of our time together. This is the same, here are some things I’m celebrating today. 🧵1/6

This job is so much bigger than one person. Our fight for education is happening all around us in classrooms and communities across the country and it continues. And I’ll be right there with you in the fight. 6/6

To the students, families, educators, and education leaders I’ve served these last 4 years, I want to make it clear that while I will no longer be your Secretary of Education, I will still be your partner in all that we hope to achieve for America’s students. 5/6

We knew from day one that our student loan system is broken. We led an ambitious effort to fix broken student loan forgiveness programs that included; ✅Streamlining the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program ✅Approving more than $183.6B in debt relief for 5M borrowers

We wanted to break out of the "four-year college or bust" mentality when it came to helping our students prepare for their future. That's why @UsEDGov collaborated with more than 43 states to create career pathways for students in fast-growing fields.

Post-pandemic, our country was facing a massive teacher shortage. We knew that we needed to invest in our teachers more than ever before. So we invested $30B in American Rescue Plan funds to help recruit, retain, & support hundreds of thousands of educators across the country.

For too long Puerto Rico’s students and educators were abandoned. In the last four years we were able to provide historic support for Puerto Rico’s schools, including increasing teacher salaries for the first time in 12 years.

President Biden invested $17 billion in HBCUs, making a historic investment in Black excellence.

Multilingualism is a superpower and representation matters. That’s why @USEDgov funded professional development for 5,000 multilingual educators across the country. That way all our communities are represented in the classroom.

Part of investing in mental health is creating school environments where everyone feels safe to be who they are. Let us all recommit to keeping our schools and communities a safe place for students to thrive.
