I wrote this thread 4 years ago. Nothing seems to have changed. Ofsted reform? No sign of it.

I didn’t always want to be a teacher. It was a combination of a love of my subject and opportunity (and a lack of any other career ideas!) which led me to train to teach.

@Janroweljmu @Andreacurran15 @Julespg I wish the unions would be more proactive as well. I was dismayed to see ASCL cosying up to Sir Martyn for their conference. His speech was exactly on point for the trend I'm identifying - collapsing critique of inspection practice into a critique of accountability itself.

So, we've plenty of data in for secondary reports. I have been tweeting away my observations and comparing the awarded achievement grades against a model I wrote using publicly available data and the final version of the toolkits.

I wholeheartedly agree-Long time ago HMI trialled a self-evaluation system. Some LAs also had self-evaluation systems. These helped Governors & SLTs look at their school impartially to see the priorities for improvement + far more thorough than 3 days with 3 strangers 🤔🤔🤔

@SwailesRuth @CarmelOHagan1 I think Ofsted has become so toxic now that it cannot be effectively reformed. It needs to be disbanded. The dfe then needs to work with teachers, unions, headteachers etc. and produce an accountability system that is meaningful without creating this inordinate stress.

Ofsted seem to have drifted into a place where their role is something to do with school improvement. I thought they were set up to inspect, report and hold schools to account? That’s very different.
