Section XI is deeply saddened by the passing of longtime Bridgehampton coach and athletic director Michael "Bubba" DeRosa, who died on Friday, July 10, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. He was 42.

A cornerstone of Sayville’s success this spring, Meehan led the Golden Flashes to a Suffolk League VI championship and an 18-6 overall record. At the plate, he posted a stellar .486 batting average and .557 on-base percentage while collecting 4 doubles, 4 home runs and 25 RBIs.

Meehan becomes the first player in Sayville baseball history to receive the prestigious award, capping off a remarkable high school career that helped elevate the Golden Flashes to new heights.

Sayville High School senior catcher Shane Meehan has earned the highest honor in Suffolk County baseball, being selected as the recipient of the 58th Annual Carl Yastrzemski Award, presented annually to the county’s top player as voted on by Suffolk’s varsity baseball coaches.

Congratulations to Shoreham Wading River sophomore, Frankie Valenti, for an incredible performance at the NYSPHSAA State Championships! Frankie placed 3rd in NYS for Class B in the Pentathlon, battling through five grueling events to capture a spot on the state podium.
