I remember this event. Everyone was transfixed to the television as the rescue was reported live. 18 month old Jessica, fell down a 22 ft well in the city of Midland, Texas. Baby Jessica was trapped for 58 hours without food or water. Rescue teams had to drill a deep hole parallel to the one where Jessica was trapped. Then a difficult process ensued in drilling a horizontal tunnel between the two wells and 2 feet below baby Jessica. When paramedic Robert O’donnel went down the shaft and emerged with Jessica in his arms, zit was a euphoria. Everyone celebrated. Baby Jessica was always alive! Rescue: 1987. This reminds me of a poignant scene from the movie, “Joe vs. the Volcano.” It is night and the moon is coming up. Joe who is asleep sailing on the ocean on a raft fastened by his oversized suitcases, awakens and is humbled by the huge moon in the nightsky. His words are beautiful and heartfelt.
