I’m proud to run on and stand by my record serving the people of the 46th Legislative District ahead of the June 2026 Primary Election. Together, we’ve protected Marylanders’ civil and reproductive rights, made historic investments in our schools and the families they serve, passed one of the most aggressive climate policies in the country, and reformed policing while reducing crime by unprecedented levels. Building on that progress in the years ahead requires steadfast leadership, and I hope to count on each and every one of you in that work.

When ICE agents were pulling people from their homes and cars while masked, unaccountable, and operating outside the law, Maryland needed to act. 
I co-sponsored and passed legislation through the Senate that: -Bans local police from partnering with ICE -Prohibits ICE agents from wearing masks on duty We will do whatever it takes to protect every Marylander. That’s my commitment and that’s our State leading the way.

Economic growth must start with our communities. Amid the Trump Administration’s attacks on our federal workforce, that means building on the industries that already make Maryland strong— like healthcare, biotech, transportation, finance, and emerging technologies like quantum computing. Last week, the Senate Finance Committee advanced Senate Bill 770, my legislation to build a Maryland economy rooted in industries of the future to create good jobs and real opportunity across the State.

The State funding we secured is a testament to the kids, coaches, and community that clearly articulated what the rink means to them and its centrality to our City. It’s a great day to be a @BMoreBanners.

Being Senate President starts with being a good neighbor. It's been part of how I've approached this job from the beginning. When companies like BGE don’t put the community first, I show up for constituents like Nick in Highlandtown, I listen, and I work with residents to push for accountability.

Organized labor is the backbone of building America’s middle class, which is why it was so meaningful to be back out in Cherry Hill yesterday knocking doors with the @EASCarpenters. I’m immensely grateful for their support of my re-election, and our collaboration as we strengthen Maryland’s unions.

Mayor Scott’s recent executive order makes clear that Baltimore’s public spaces belong to the people who live here. City buildings and resources should be used to serve residents — not to support federal immigration enforcement operations. Schools, libraries, and city services should always be places where families feel safe showing up.

The Mimi DiPietro ice rink in Patterson Park is more than just a place to skate. It’s a space where thousands of Baltimore families make memories and our young people discover themselves through organizations like the @BMoreBanners. Its closure is an unacceptable outcome, which is why I was so proud to announce today that Team46 secured $500,000 in State funds to hopefully save the rink for another 5 to 10 years. I’m immensely grateful to Delegates @LukeClippinger, Lewis, and @ElectEdelson, along with Councilman @1stDistrictMark, Council President @Zeke_Cohen, and @MayorBMScott for their partnership working towards this solution as we identify a path towards the rinks’ long-term viability for generations of Baltimoreans to come.

I didn’t start my career in politics. I started it in a high school classroom teaching U.S. government and history in Baltimore City Public Schools. When you teach teenagers about democracy, you learn quickly that what matters isn’t speeches - it’s whether government actually delivers. That lesson still guides my work every day.

Energy costs are too high. Senate Bill 771 will make it easier for Marylanders to get the help they need by cutting red tape and streamlining the four energy assistance programs our State operates. When energy costs are this high, people shouldn’t have to navigate confusing bureaucracy just to keep the lights on.

It was great to join students, educators, and community leaders for the ribbon cutting of the new annex at Maree G. Farring Elementary/Middle School which received more than $22.5 million in State to resolve issues of overcrowding. Projects like this give students the space and resources they need to learn, grow, and succeed. When we invest in our schools, we invest in our communities and in the future of Baltimore’s kids.

Today, we recognize Harriet Tubman Day and honor one of Maryland’s most extraordinary leaders. In 2020, then-Speaker Jones and I unveiled a life-sized bronze statue of Harriet Tubman in the Old House Chamber of the State House — the very room where Maryland abolished slavery in 1864. As we observe Women’s History Month, Tubman’s legacy calls on us to stand firmly for justice and defend the dignity and freedom of every Marylander.

This morning, I stood alongside Senator @ChrisVanHollen, @Sen_Alsobrooks, @RepKweisiMfume, @RepJohnnyO, @MayorBMScott, and other federal, State, and local leaders outside the George H. Fallon Federal Building to speak out against the human rights abuses taking place there. The conditions reported inside this ICE detention facility in Baltimore are deplorable and must be immediately corrected. Every individual regardless of documentation status is deserving of dignity and due process, two fundamental American values.

I knocked doors in Otterbein today, one of the communities where residents' advocacy and countless hours of work alongside my office helped push BGE to pause its proposed underground transmission project. It was good to be back in the neighborhood hearing directly from people about what this project could mean and why the last two months of community pressure made the difference. Thanks to all the volunteers who came out this morning, including my good friend, @SenatorDawnGile. As a former Otterbein resident, she knows just how much this neighborhood means to the people who call it home.

I was so glad to see hundreds of friends and neighbors at last night's 46th District and Baltimore City Night in Annapolis. We brought a taste of Baltimore to the General Assembly, literally in the case of @EkibenBaltimore, along with the Fells Point Town Crier and Poly-Western Drumline. Thanks to everyone who took the time to come in from our incredible City and make last night a resounding success!
