Today, we also honor the women who may not be mothers by biology, but who mother nonetheless: the grandmothers, aunts, mentors, teachers, neighbors, foster moms, godmothers, coaches, and caretakers who open their hearts to nurture, guide, protect, and empower our children. So many of us are standing today because someone loved us, believed in us, encouraged us, prayed for us, or refused to give up on us. Here is to the women who raise us up.
Who remind us of our worth.
Who teach us courage, compassion, and resilience. Your light does not just shape families — it shapes the world.

Today we honor Mother Viola Fletcher on her heavenly birthday. 🤍 At 7 years old, she survived the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. At 107, she testified before Congress. At 109, she published her memoir, Don’t Let Them Bury My Story. She lived 111 years as a beacon of resilience, truth, and unyielding faith. I was proud to stand with her in the Senate fight to enshrine Greenwood — Black Wall Street — as a national monument so her story is never forgotten. Rest in power, Mother Fletcher. Extraordinarily grateful that the truck driver and air travelers are okay after this week’s accident at Newark Airport, but it’s another sign that we need continued investment to improve the safety and efficiency of EWR. For decades, I’ve been fighting for the funding this international transit hub deserves—also imploring the Trump administration to invest in, rather than cut, hard infrastructure and human capital at the FAA and across the aviation system. My team has been in touch with the NTSB and FAA on the preliminary investigation report and I look forward to being briefed on the final investigation report once completed.

One less carrier means higher prices and fewer options for passengers heading into summer travel. Spirit’s collapse is the latest casualty of a consolidated airline industry that was already failing working families. The growing concentration at the top has made flying a luxury instead of a given. We must ensure greater competition in our skies and real choice for all American travelers.

Hegseth and Trump's lies and obfuscation about the war in Iran are no excuse. This unauthorized and reckless action must end, and I urge my colleagues regardless of party, to support the War Powers resolutions.

Corporations got a free pass to consolidate power under the Trump administration, swallowing up competitors, squeezing workers and driving up prices. Today, I introduced legislation to unwind these anticompetitive mergers.

Proud to reintroduce the Farmland for Farmers Act. Farmland is the soul of rural America—and should not be treated as just another Wall Street investment. Ownership of farmland by corporate investors has exploded: the number of institutionally owned farms has tripled since 2005, now worth over $16 billion. Family farmers are being squeezed, rural communities hollowed out. We cannot allow corporate profits to come before the lives and dignity of American farmers.

When confronted with his own words about “re-parenting” every Black child, RFK Jr. denied, deflected, and then offered a weak “if” apology.  That is not leadership. That is not the character we need guiding our public health or speaking for our country.  Thank you @Sen_Alsobrooks for standing strong and demanding answers.

Finally, the federal government has made marijuana a Schedule III substance. This will offer legal businesses in New Jersey significant benefits, but there is still a long way to go to ensure that possession is no longer a crime, and to repair the harm to individuals and communities affected by decades of selective enforcement. nytimes.com/2026/04/23/us/…

This merger is far from a done deal—federal and international regulators still need to sign off, state attorneys general have to review, and those of us in the Senate who want to protect Americans from the crush of corporate consolidation will continue to press for answers.
