Here are the facts about the so-called “SAVE America Act.”

President Trump must reach a diplomatic solution with Cuba. And that deal must put the national interests of the U.S. and the interests of the people of Cuba first.

One aspect of the "SAVE America Act" that is deeply harmful and hasn't received enough attention is the fact that it makes it much harder for people impacted by natural disasters to vote. In recent years, flooding, wildfires, and tornadoes have devastated communities in places like North Carolina, California, Texas, and my state of Vermont. Millions of families have had their homes partially or completely destroyed, homes where they keep their most important documents. Under the SAVE America Act, you can't vote using a normal driver’s license. If your passport and your birth certificate were in your home when it was destroyed, you’re facing an entirely new barrier to vote. To register, you'd need to request a new birth certificate. Most states charge a cost to do this (a poll tax) and there's a wait to receive the certificate (three weeks in Texas, for example). A passport is $130, plus a $35 facility acceptance fee—not to mention more fees if you need it expedited. Then, even once you get your birth certificate or passport, the SAVE America Act requires that you physically go in person to register to vote, even if your state used to allow registration online or by mail. The SAVE America Act would take away the right to vote for folks who have already gone through so much emotional, financial, and even physical pain. It's a bill that would fundamentally harm to our democracy. We must defeat it.

I just voted against advancing the SAVE America Act.

This week, Senate Republicans will force votes on the so-called SAVE America Act. It would block millions of service members, seniors, women, and more from voting. I will vote no.

Republicans would rather not pay TSA agents and the Coast Guard than make ICE agents wear identification like your local police department does.

Thousands of people around the world—including Americans—are taken hostage or detained simply for who they are, what they believe, or bravely standing up for freedom. I was pleased to speak at the McCain Institute’s conference about working with my colleagues across the aisle—and abroad—to make sure hostages and prisoners of conscience aren’t forgotten, including Pastor Ezra Jin and Dennis Coyle. It must be a priority for the U.S. to protect the safety of Americans abroad and defend the universal right of free expression.

In the span of 24 hours, Democrats went down to the Senate Floor with bills to fund TSA, FEMA, the Coast Guard, and our national cybersecurity. Republicans blocked all of them.

Everywhere I go in Vermont, folks tell me housing is too expensive. That’s why I voted to pass the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, the largest housing reform bill in 30 years. We'll be able to build more housing that working families can actually afford.

War is not a game. It’s not a game to U.S. troops on alert around the world. It’s not a game to the families of the 100 girls in Iran who were killed at school in a missile attack. It’s not a game to the families of the 13 service members who have died in this war so far.

The American people deserve to know whether their tax dollars were used to buy the missiles that destroyed a school for girls in Iran that killed more than 100 children.

Our country is stronger because of our diversity. Senator Tuberville’s post is hateful and un-American. We can’t tolerate hate toward Muslim Americans in Vermont or anywhere in our country.
