Donald Trump is one of the weakest, most thin-skinned individuals the world has ever seen.    Reporters have the right and duty to report the truth. It’s not their fault his foreign-gifted plane is a national security threat.    This subpoena is a gross overreach and a disgusting misuse of federal law enforcement resources that should alarm every American.

Donald Trump said Republicans should “take over the voting.” Today, he took another step toward doing exactly that. Firing every remaining member of the bipartisan Election Assistance Commission months before the midterms is a brazen attempt to seize control of our elections before a single vote is cast. He is gutting the independent agency that certifies voting systems and helps election officials run secure elections. Senate Democrats will fight this power grab at every turn. The American people—not Donald Trump—will decide the 2026 election.

Trump’s shameless self-enrichment has turned into a serious national security threat. His rampant, reckless, and rotten corruption comes at a real cost to our safety and Americans’ bank accounts. A year ago, I warned that this $400 million Qatari jet was not simply the largest, most corrupt foreign bribe to an American president in history – it was also a grave national security risk. That’s why I introduced the Presidential Airlift Security Act, which would prohibit the use of any foreign plane to be utilized as Air Force One. Republicans refused to join our effort to block taxpayer funding for the jet. They let the President waste nearly $1 billion in taxpayer dollars to retrofit and operate his luxury jet – and yet it’s still not secure. When the Senate returns, we must pass the Presidential Airlift Security Act and ensure that not another cent goes toward maintaining Trump’s national security nightmare.

Trump DOJ’s campaign to subvert the election took another hit today, this time by a Trump-appointed judge. He found that the Trump DOJ’s staggeringly broad subpoena would “chill participation in future elections.” This is an important win. But we know Trump will do whatever he can to rig the elections and that his attack dog at the DOJ, Todd Blanche, will do his bidding. I will continue to lead Democrats in using every avenue to stop these anti-democratic efforts at every turn.

I’m disturbed to learn that there was yet another potential act of violence in a house of worship—at the Muslim Center in Queens. I’m relieved he was subdued by a congregant before any harm occurred. Islamophobia is unacceptable, and we must continue to reject hatred and bigotry in every form.

JUST IN: A disappointing jobs report. The US economy added 57,000 jobs in June (below expectations of 115k). Hospitality jobs decline by -61k. Plus, April and May were revised lower by -74,000. The unemployment rate fell to 4.2% --> the lowest in a year, but mainly due to a big drop in people job hunting. The bad news = Wages aren’t keeping up with inflation. Wage gains were 3.5% in the past year, which is below ~4% inflation.
