Maine has lost too many to the scourge of addiction. I was honored to visit the York County Substance Abuse Recovery Center to see how the $1.9 million in federal funding I secured is being put to work to soon provide vital assistance to Mainers who are struggling. We are working every day to tear down the roadblocks of waitlists and ensuring help is there when our community needs it most.

Understanding the challenges Mainers face is important, but delivering real solutions is critical. As Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I have secured more than $1.5 billion over the past five years for projects that strengthen our communities, improve public safety, and help make Maine more affordable. That’s just part of the story. My seniority has helped bring billions more to Maine’s economy by supporting major employers like Bath Iron Works and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. These are good-paying jobs that sustain families and entire communities across our state. Today at the Togus VA, I was honored to join veterans and caregivers for the ribbon cutting of Maine’s first-ever residential rehabilitation center for our veterans. For too long, Maine veterans in need of residential care for substance use disorder, PTSD, and depression had to leave our state & their families for treatment. Now, with this new facility, our veterans can receive the comprehensive, around-the-clock care they deserve right here at home. As the daughter of a World War II veteran, I have always carried a deep respect for those who have worn the uniform. That’s why this moment is so meaningful. This center represents years of advocacy and a simple promise: when our veterans need us, we will be there for them just as they have always been there for us. 🇺🇸🌲
