Dr Melissa Lem, a Vancouver family physician says that young people are exposed to more information regarding the environment nowadays, this raises awareness for climate change but can also contribute to the level of concerns and anxiety they have.

Eco-anxiety, a term first coined by Glenn Albrecht in 2011, describes chronic or severe anxiety related to humans’ relationship with the environment. In 2017, the American Psychiatric Association described eco-anxiety as “a chronic fear of environmental doom.

“We don't know in 10 years if there's going to be so many ecological disasters that we wouldn't have a normal life. We are at the point where if we don't start doing something meaningful, we are all in a lot of trouble.” Annelise Jensen, SFU student
