We are fortunate to have a large population of veterans that call Alabama home, and we have many employers in a variety of industries that are ready to hire them. The HIRE VETS program honors the recruiting and employing of veterans across the state of Alabama. 🇺🇸

Governor Kay Ivey and Alabama Department of Workforce Secretary @SenatorGregReed are calling on employers to strengthen their workforce by hiring former service members through a federal recognition program — the HIRE Vets Medallion Award Program. The application period for the HIRE Vets Medallion Award Program runs from January 30 through April 30, 2026. The program is an official initiative of the U.S. Department of Labor. “We need our veterans in Alabama’s workforce, and as governor, I’ve made it a priority to connect their diverse talents with meaningful opportunities,” @governorkayivey said. “These extraordinary men and women deserve our very best, and I am proud of Alabama’s world-class employers for helping our veterans provide for themselves and their families after service.” Read full story: yellowhammernews.com/ivey-reed-urge… #Alabama #ALPolitics #HIREVetsMedallionAwardProgram #AlabamaVeterans

By utilizing existing connections, federal funding, and the state’s aggressive approach toward economic development, not only are we helping bring much-needed jobs to the area, but we are also making use of previously unusable land that will now yield dividends for years to come!

On Thursday, Alabama officially launched launched the Alabama Department of Workforce (ADOW), marking the most comprehensive workforce transformation in state history. The new department, branded as Workforce Alabama, was officially unveiled during a kickoff event on the Alabama State Capitol steps, bringing together industry leaders, education partners, government officials and community representatives from all 67 counties. @SenatorGregReed, who leads the new department, announced ADOW’s mission to remove barriers and create clear pathways connecting people to prosperity through integrated services. The department consolidates previously fragmented workforce programs under unified leadership, positioning Alabama to address its workforce participation paradox — low unemployment at 3.3% paired with the nation’s third-worst workforce participation rate at 57.8%. “Alabama’s workforce is our greatest competitive advantage,” @GovernorKayIvey said. “This unified approach connects individual career advancement to statewide prosperity, ensuring that our human capital drives continued economic growth across all communities.” “We’re not just fixing problems—we’re building Alabama’s competitive future,” said Secretary Reed during his keynote address. “Alabama’s greatest resource is its people, and when they thrive, we all rise. This department represents our commitment to meeting every Alabamian where they are and guiding them to where they want to be.” ADOW tackles the paradox of abundant job openings alongside low workforce participation through a comprehensive, community-based approach. The department focuses particularly on young, disconnected workers aged 20-29 facing the “26 cliff” when they lose healthcare coverage and independence support. “We’re meeting people where they are—by making opportunities accessible for all through their own community connections,” Secretary Reed said. Veterans and their families have sacrificed so much in their brave service to our country. The Alabama Veterans Resource Center will honor their service and be a place where we can give back to those who have given so much. God bless our veterans! 🇺🇸

Alabama is building a strong pipeline that connects the classroom to a good career. Yesterday, I helped launch the Direct Admissions initiative. This will make it easier for our students — whether pursuing university or technical credentials — to plan their future. #alpolitics

The economic news this month continues to be positive and is keeping our momentum going. Alabamians are joining the workforce in record numbers, especially our prime-age workers. There is a lot of work yet to be done, but @al_workforce is ready for the task!

To maintain Alabama’s success in economic growth, we need the best and most highly skilled workers in America, and we need more of them tomorrow than we have today. Recently, I enjoyed speaking at the Alabama Labor Management Conference to discuss all the things workforce!

Alabama is seeing tremendous growth in good jobs, and we need more trained workers. The Heman Drummond Center of Innovation will be one of Alabama’s premier high school career-tech centers. Today, I was proud to be in Jasper to break ground on this great project. #alpolitics

@al_workforce is working hard each day to positively impact our state’s workforce efforts. @GovernorKayIvey is a workforce champion. Thank you for encouraging so many job seekers and state agencies as they seek opportunities to make a meaningful impact on Alabama’s economy.

We’re working to grow Alabama’s workforce, and that starts with connecting great talent to meaningful public service right here at home. At today’s State Agency Job Fair, I met both job seekers and employers and saw the opportunity this event brought to the table. #alpolitics
