I was honored to celebrate School Counselor's Day at the Statehouse! I was glad to join the INSCA Executive Director, Jan Desmarais-Morse and INSCA Board Chair, Lydia McNeily to highlight the important work of school counselors.

Though I am disappointed that it did not pass, I will continue working with my colleagues to find ways to ensure we are taking care of those who need it most. #INForAll

Let me be clear, I am all for fiscal responsibility. At the same time, I am all for taking advantage of federal programs that ensure kids in our state do not go hungry—this amendment was a chance for Indiana to join 38 other states in working towards that goal.

Today, I supported an amendment authored by my colleague, Sen. Qaddoura, which would have restored funding for the critical SUN Bucks program to feed hungry kids.

It was inspiring to see so many folks come all the way down to the People’s House from South Bend to testify and advocate for their community. I’m happy to share that your advocacy and your passion had an immediate impact, and the author of the bill has withdrawn the legislation.

I am grateful to be serving as the ranking minority member for the Education & Career Development Committee this session. During yesterday's meeting, we listened to various bills, including SB 248.

Currently, Indiana is one of two states to have a Foster Parent Bill of Rights. Having a similar set of standards for our state's foster youth provides additional guidance and support when navigating life in foster care. (4/5)

Today, I served on both the Elections Committee and the Family and Children Services Committee. In Elections, we heard several bills, including SB 12, which would ban ranked choice voting—a process that does not exist in our state. (1/5)
