I welcomed Jewish students to my Albany office for a conversation on civic education and our shared responsibility in democracy. In divided times, this is our answer: dialogue across faith, grounded in respect and learning—where young voices step forward and democracy is lived.

In FY 2011 New York State eliminated Aid and Incentives to Municipalities (AIM) for NYC— leaving it in place for all other localities. If the City still received AIM, and had funding kept pace with inflation, NYC would receive $557 million per year.

This morning, advocates met with @SenatorRJackson's staff to thank him for cosponsoring S.965. This bill would require state-regulated health plans to cover medically necessary care for children with certain diagnoses, even when the provider is out of network or out of state.

Proud to stand with @care4immigrants for a simple truth: due process is a constitutional promise. Justice cannot be only for those who can afford it. When immigrants have counsel, families stay together. NY must act: pass ARA, BUILD & invest $175M to fund legal services.

I stood with faith leaders of NY to defend the sacred spaces our neighbors rely on. As a Muslim and legislator, I introduced S4121 so schools, hospitals, shelters, & houses of worship remain places of refuge, protected from immigration enforcement without a judicial warrant.

For more than a decade, NYC has been shut out of AIM funding—support that helps cities sustain schools, sanitation, public safety, & infrastructure. In an op-ed with @AM_AndrewHevesi, I make the case to restore it in this year’s budget. cityandstateny.com/opinion/2026/0…
