Trenton shouldn’t be picking winners and losers with municipal aid. The Governor’s budget gives $94 million to municipalities, including Newark and Jersey City, who created their own budget crises. Why should communities in my district be forced to bail them out?

My letter encourages municipal leaders to demand the entire $94 million increase in municipal aid that Gov. Sherrill is proposing to restrict for only a dozen communities be, instead, distributed equally to all municipalities for the benefit of property taxpayers.

The Department of Human Services has the largest budget in state government. Our goal is simple: protect New Jersey’s most vulnerable while ensuring these resources are used as efficiently and effectively as possible.

This bill is a critical step toward ensuring that NJ Transit listens to riders and takes meaningful action to improve bus and rail service, especially for our region.

South Jersey commuters have far fewer NJ Transit options than other parts of the state, and riders deserve a stronger voice in shaping service improvements.
