There are lots of good ideas out there on housing, but the reality is, we need to build more housing to lower people's costs. Let's declare a National Housing Emergency and build 4 million homes.

President Trump wants billions in taxpayer dollars for his ballroom and a “weaponization fund.” What could we do instead? A lot. We could fix every dam in Michigan, replace every single lead pipe, or feed kids in schools for 10 years.

It may look a little different, but Mackinac Island has most of the same needs as any other town. That means a fire department, post office, city council, police officers, a jail, and a courthouse. This morning I got the full behind-the-scenes tour, including a look inside one of their two jail cells. And PSA, the bike speed limit on the island is 15mph (in some places 10) and they do have a bike impound rack — pedal safe!

Last year, I met the head of Fort Mackinac at the Pink Pony, and he insisted that at some point, I must shoot the cannon at the top of the park. Well, this year, as part of America’s 250th, I got to check this off my bucket list!

The Trump Administration is rolling back standards to allow  more PFAS particles in our drinking water. This is a setback, but we can’t stop fighting for the federal government to restore a scientific standard for drinking water.

Headed to Mackinac, one of our true state gems. There is no better feeling than a beautiful day and (finally!), knowing you’re going from car to ferry to horse to bike. Pure Michigan at its best!

Memorial Day reminds us that democracy and security aren’t guaranteed, but made possible by ordinary Americans who answered the call to serve and defend. As we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice this weekend, there are great events throughout Michigan that offer an opportunity to honor that legacy. There’s many Americans, and especially Michiganders, who still care deeply about the U.S.-Canada relationship. We are in a tough moment right now, but there is a future after President Trump.

The U.S.-Canada relationship is still critically important, especially to Michigan. Despite the recent tension in that relationship, I strongly believe our two nations must work together to address the big problems we face. I was in Toronto to reaffirm that point. And I appreciated the dialogue with the Foreign Minister @AnitaAnandMP, Minister of Industry @melaniejoy, and Minister of Infrastructure @gregorrobertson. In each, we discussed the deep bonds between the American people and the Canadian people, the Gordie Howe Bridge, and the threat of Chinese Communist Party vehicles.

There are many Americans, and especially Michiganders, who care deeply about the U.S.-Canada relationship. Our lives, economies, and security are intertwined. That's why I thought it was so important to travel to Toronto to meet with Prime Minister @MarkJCarney. In addition to reaffirming my commitment to that relationship, we discussed the importance of the Gordie Howe Bridge to both nations, and I raised my concerns about the threat of Chinese cars coming into North America. The United States and Canada are in a tough moment right now. But our overlapping interests are bigger than any one president. As Michigan's Senator, I know that the bond between the American people and Canadian people is deep, and it will endure. Because we are stronger when we work together.
