She covered the movement as a young radio reporter — and watched tens of thousands rally for farmworkers' rights. Now she's grappling with allegations that the man who helped her family may have abused women and girls.

"This changes absolutely everything," independent journalist Elvia Diaz said of the allegations that César Chávez sexually abused women and girls. Crews started removing Cesar Chavez street signs not long after the Phoenix City Council voted to erase his name from city properties and a holiday during a meeting Wednesday night. A recent New York Times investigation detailed allegations that Chavez sexually abused multiple women, including the minor daughters of fellow farmworkers rights activists.
