Until it creates its own motivation to generate the idea for a "cure" on its own, and without prompting, its will remain a clever calculator. Before you say something about humans being the same... yeah ok, sure. Lots of unmotivated idiots running around, and yet they can still come with unprompted ideas on how or why to stay unmotivated. The AI needs a prompt, no matter how vast its knowledge corpus is. When it no longer needs prompting and becomes more "let me check this because i am bored and have nothing better to do", it is simply "knowledgeable" and nothing more.

Yeah I do... I've been one before in one career and I am now the other. I've seen the attitude, had the attitude, seen what happens when you have that attitude and also suffered the same consequences...and rightly so. People think this kind of thing is new... it isn't . I don't care what the numbers are for graduates or job market. 30 years ago it was the inverse of what it is now... and the attitudes/arrogance haven't changed.

@SereneApathy @deadend_king You're wrong lol, there are ~76k mechanics/automotive grads retiring each year and only ~40k new ones coming in (~57% of demand). Meanwhile there are ~137k new programmers/compsci grads and ~129k new positions each year (108% of demand). Do you understand the difference?

@Rainmaker1973 First colony on mars will be corporate and not beholden to any but its own laws. You bend the knee to the corporate policy, or don't sign up and just stay on Earth... or go and then get left outside. No tolerance for fooling around in that environment.

Why is there suddenly such an aggressive push against American data centers and AI infrastructure? After seeing a major spike in coordinated opposition campaigns around our Utah projects, we conducted a digital audit and traced a large amount of the activity back to an organization called Alliance for a Better Utah, which has been pushing misinformation throughout Box Elder County about our data center developments. What’s even more concerning is where the funding appears to originate. After reviewing IRS Form 990 filings and tracing the network behind it, the money appears tied to Chinese linked funding channels connected through an organization called Arabella. Think about the incentive, if China is racing to dominate AI and compute capacity, why wouldn’t they want to slow American infrastructure down?

Are you willing to pay higher costs for i telnet services? Because thats what it would be... and slower internet responsiveness. Have to pay for the network cabling. There will be additional latency. And data centers have been around since at least the 90s in some fashion or another. Where was the outrage then? This is a bandwagon you don't want to be on.

here's a thought.. build all AI data centers near the poles of the planet.. You got year round wind for power, you got 6 months of daylight depending on the season. and you can build thorium nuclear reactors which don't require all the safety measures for uranium. and lastly your cooling is taken care off. frigid air temps pumped into the data halls.. only thing you have to bring onsite is your fiber trunks, which probably isn't that big of a feat since you've ran fiber across all the major oceans already..

Classic measurement from the human perspective... You can't measure an alien civilization's average length from a human point of view. We have no correct frame of reference, so this is all conjecture... guessing. Even if a "meaningful fraction" of their civilizational length was spent transmitting into space, how long have we been listening? They're out there, we just don't have the means to listen correctly, nor the humility to hear.
