To me, the idea of next season is just pointless, I understand the want for player development and I want that as well. But by keeping the players prohibiting the player development of our young guys, it defeats the purpose of that. Next year only serves that purpose. The expectations will be higher, we expect 50 wins and a top 6-seed. Every loss is going to feel worse, and every wind is going to feel the same. What on the basketball court will change next season? So you mean to tell me that if we’re healthy we will automatically somehow play much better than we did last year when we were healthy? The health argument makes no sense because we saw the guys healthy for portions of last season and the basketball was not good. People have just erased the months of February March and April from their minds, I think most people don’t realize that was the real Phoenix Suns, that was them after they ran out of gas. We are not going to be magically better next year, there are some who think that will happen and they can be left to their own opinions. But what does 50 wins and the 6-seed actually do for us? Because that is exactly what we would’ve had this season if we were healthy for the whole season. We saw what they look like healthy at the end of the season. They were not good. Is the idea just to have last year again but healthy? It doesn’t change anything, I want rookie development, but that can’t happen with players who need to be gone taking up minutes from the young guys. It doesn’t make any sense and it just sounds like complete cowardice. I’m not asking just to swing for the fences immediately and blow every asset we have on a star, but marginal moves need to be made. Some of convinced themselves that they don’t need to be, and that we will be fine without them. I think they don’t realize yet the overall vibe of next season is going to feel a lot different than last season. If we have the exact same season as last season, but the young guys develop some more, that’s good, but it doesn’t do anything for us. I don’t think we need to star-chase, and I don’t necessarily want that. I’m just asking for ambition instead of cowardice. Someone recently replied to me and said “Rome wasn’t built in a day”, and that’s true, it took time. But they built it. They didn’t just sit on their hands for years and hope that the roads would build themselves eventually. The model of continuity only works if your team is already successful. I want moderate continuity, but I don’t want extreme continuity. I understand some of the arguments about how the team needs to develop chemistry and the young guys need to develop as well, but it seems like we don’t have any ambition outside of that. I completely acknowledge that we will in the future, I’m not asking us to rush anything, I don’t want us to trade for a star, but I want us to make trades. I’ve been saying it for months if we bring the same team back, we are doomed. I don’t want a rag-tag group of lovable overachievers, I want winners. I want a team with ambition and I know we have that, but we’re not showing it. That’s where the whole of next season just seems pointless to me, I don’t want us to go completely all in yet, and I know that that’s what the 2027 off-season will be. But I want us to actually actively try and take the next step right now rather than just waiting a whole year, marginal moves are what is best. We need to take another step now, rather than a massive step next year. The goal of next year should be to come out of the year thinking that we are 100% on the right direction and are going to be contenders soon, but if we just see the exact same season with a good bit of young talent development does it do that for us? Maybe. But I don’t think so. I completely trust this front office, but I believe this is a mistake, that is if we don’t do anything. We still may. Ambition builds winners, not cowardice.
