New PG signing in Newcastle. Interesting permutations in terms of RaySean Taylor (mostly) and Mitch Clarke's minutes (analysis below on read more). First off - he'll be a game-changer for Newcastle in terms of his dynamic at the 1 vs. Ray'Sean. Ray'Sean's on-offs, despite his individual scoring ability, is the worst in the league in heavy minutes: it's a place where Newcastle could improve (and reduce reliance on those minutes). He should definitely help in terms of their very bad 54% assist rate with only Ray'Sean on-court. Terrell's a one-man offense to himself (with high usage and assist stats similar to a point-guard like Rickey McGill): very shifty and good advantage creation as a handler with an ability to quickly meld handle into passes and pass on the move off of his driving threat, as a heads up PG with quick reads (around a 1.3-5 AST/USG as a higher usage guard, meaning he assists per possession akin to someone like Makai Ashton-Langford at Manny last season). Very quick and bursty, able to blow-by defenders and string together dribble moves at full-speed. He's an aggressive rim pressure guard looking, first and foremost, to attack the basket, with a variety of tough finishes, floater game and good body control at the rim. Despite his size (listed at 5'10"), he's a foul drawing machine (ridiculous 0.9 FT/FGA) at the rim and physically very strong (to offset the size difference - ProB France is a big, physical league compared to ours and still shot at a near neutral TS% on good usage). The draw-back is, unsurprisingly, his size and lack of high level explosion as a finisher, especially for a guard with poorer outside shooting (lower volume on around 30% from three), which can make his shot quality tough if defenses can be solid and work to a gameplan. His bad outside shooting will affect spacing when he's off-ball. Teams with high level rim protection/size (such as Matt Nicholson etc.) that can avoid fouling him at the rim should be able to slow him down. He also can be quite turnover prone per possession despite his level of shiftiness and level of skill (22% in Slovenia).
