In a big win for public health, the U.S. Supreme Court today refused to hear a tobacco industry challenge to graphic cigarette warnings required by the FDA. This leaves in place a ruling by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals that upheld the warnings and found they do not violate the First Amendment. Today’s decision is a giant step toward finally implementing graphic cigarette warnings in the U.S. These warnings were first required by Congress in 2009 and will promote public understanding of the many ways smoking harms the human body. It’s time for the U.S. to catch up with the 138 countries and territories worldwide that already require graphic warnings. cnn.com/2024/11/25/pol…
