That Eric Swalwell was able to get away with this kind of behaviour for so long won’t shock a lot of women who’ve worked in politics. Too many have seen it, experienced it, or been warned to stay quiet about it. That needs to change.

@emkenobi Hospital or private practice? Do you believe an STD/pregnancy test is a rape test? What other forensic evidence is there? False accusation, confirmed under the most stringent criteria amount to upwards of 6%. With the next level, they are at upwards of 30%.

To everyone defending Eric Swalwell and claiming the victim is lying, just know the victim went to the hospital to have a pregnancy and STD test done and the hospital staff have already shown the evidence to investigators. A hospital is not going to lie to investigators or create fake DNA evidence. She also has multiple witnesses. It’s a very physically and emotionally traumatic experience to get testing like that done. Someone who is lying is not going to put themselves through that and the hospital would have already concluded that there was no evidence had she lied. Investigators would also have already made a statement saying there was no credible evidence to be found if her claims were false. Victims can do everything they’re supposed to do yet some people still won’t believe them. She knows how the media and public is. She knows she’ll be attacked and ridiculed. She hasn’t even shown her face so claims that she’s trying to get media attention is bullshit. We don’t even know her identity. She has zero reason to lie and it’s very telling that since then multiple women have come out with similar stories about Swalwell. It’s also very telling Swalwell has not denied any specific allegations made against him. False accusations do happen but are statistically rare. Society loves to paint victims as liars when data shows the majority of accusations are true. Believe victims. Stop defending abusers and rapists.

I have no idea why Elon wants to encourage this to be a place for long form video and text pieces. Obviously that’s not what this app was historically and it’s hard to imagine that transforming it into this would cause a viral sensation. How often have you ever shared a link with a friend (to any platform) and said “hey, read this giant article” compared to how often you share a link for a pithy joke or short video? With my luck, it’ll work and I’ll look like an idiot (more than usual, anyway) but it feels completely tone deaf.

I have spent my entire career reporting on sexual misconduct by politicians. The barrier to publication anywhere with good lawyers is very, very high. Getting women to speak and share personal records and acquire corroboration from friends and colleagues is extremely difficult.
