Elon Musk just explained the 3 things humanity needs to become a Kardashev-scale civilization: 01. Mass to orbit 02. Power generation 03. AI chips Humanity is still barely registering on the Kardashev Scale. We currently use only a tiny fraction of the energy available from the Sun. To become a truly advanced civilization, three major bottlenecks must be solved: 01. Mass to orbit We need the ability to move millions of tons of infrastructure into space. Solar arrays, radiators, factories, and data centers cannot scale without dramatically reducing launch costs. Musk says Starship is the breakthrough that makes this possible. 02. Power generation A civilization powered by terawatts of energy will eventually need massive solar power systems in space. The goal is to harness a meaningful share of the Sun’s energy rather than relying solely on Earth’s limited resources. 03. AI chips Terawatt-scale power requires terawatt-scale computing. Future AI systems will need enormous amounts of compute, making advanced chips one of the key ingredients of a spacefaring civilization. If humanity wants to become a multi-planetary, Kardashev-scale civilization, we must massively increase our ability to launch payloads, generate energy, and deploy AI compute. That’s why Starship matters.
