The 2026 International Migration Review Forum is a key opportunity to advance the rights of children on the move. As countries review progress on the Global Compact for Migration, UNICEF calls for urgent action to protect and support children wherever they are.

All of us at UNICEF are devastated and outraged by the killing of our colleague Karine Buisset in a reported drone attack in Goma, DRC. My immediate thoughts are with the family, loved ones & colleagues across UNICEF. Civilians, including aid workers, must never be targeted.

Protecting children online requires collaboration. Proud to see this partnership strengthening support for child helplines in over 30 countries so every child can be heard and supported.

In conflicts and emergencies, girls and women are often worst affected. Violence and displacement become widespread. Education and healthcare are disrupted. The risk of child marriage rises. Opportunities disappear. In times of crisis, girls’ futures are often pushed aside. Across the world, UNICEF and partners are working to protect girls’ rights, supporting their safety, education and access to services that help them build their futures.

Four years on, #Ukraine’s children are still living with the consequences of war - displacement, loss, trauma and disrupted education. Every child deserves safety, protection and hope for the future. The world must not forget Ukraine’s children.

Deepfake abuse is abuse. Sexualised images, videos, or audio of children generated or manipulated using AI tools are child sexual abuse material. Even without an identifiable victim, it normalises the sexual exploitation of children.
