@hntrgurl13 Yeah. The English language doesn't so much have "rules" as a set of very loose, highly negotiable guidelines for both spelling & grammar. I think it was mostly a result of the Norman Conquest and weird shifts that happened when things got standardized in the early days of print.

That’s how I feel as a teacher teaching basic grammar to my 3rd graders and I feel absolutely awful. Fuck the English language.
