Okay ….. the AI levels were fine …until you get to Resurrection of the Daleks 👀 ….I don’t know who’s playing the Doctor but … on the plus side it does get rid of the annoying picture feedback when machine guns are fired 🤷🏻‍♂️

@WillAnklin @DoctorWhoHome1 Those lines have nothing to do with the upscaler, it's an issue that's on the physical tape that was used to record the show. Whenever there was a loud/large explosion/bangs. The tape would wobble and cause the lines. The AI slop however changed to flash to whatever that is.

@DoctorWhoHome1 The interlacing artifact on the right picture isn't due to AI, although the AI slop filter has been thrown on top. I've noticed it a lot on pre-AI sets. The hardware upscaler they use sometimes has a hard time with very rapid motion or flashing effects.

As much as I absolutely LOATH the #DoctorWho #Season21 restoration of the episodes, I do have to give it props for one thing on the set. The fact that they finally managed to locate the film reel for the Sixth Doctor intro and included it is so incredibly good!

@finneyzair @SphereChaser Supposedly AI has been used since the start according to some of the restoration team, but it wasn't until Season 15 where generative AI at least became noticeable. And they've pushed the DNR and AI nonsense more and more since to the point of it looking like utter garbage.

@ShadowElg @SphereChaser They started using AI way before Season 13 was released. So why has it only become an issue now ? Is it being overused ?

Doctor Who Season 21's Resurrection of the Daleks is an AI write off on Blu Ray then. You're supposed to ENHANCE detail not smooth it out.

@Doinkadect We should a 100%, I genuinely think these two seasons are beyond saving as is. But we won't and they'll stick their heads in the sand, call people who criticise 'daft' and the two seasons won't see a new restoration for who knows how long.

How long before we get replacement discs for Seasons 13 and 21?

The only explanation was they were trying to kill a journalist. There’s nothing else there. Hundreds have been killed by Israel in the last several years.

@LRoundels Season 15 is the first one where I noticed something was off. Season 25 overall I'd say suffers mostly from too much DNR on the broadcast versions. Extended/Special editions all have this terrible AI nonsense. But 13 is where things really just got awful unfortunately.

The AI accentuates the visual echo around Davison's collar and the side of the window. As much as I hated the AI treatment on season 25 - pay attention people, it's been there longer than season 13! - it hasn't really bothered me on Warriors or The Awakening. Pressing on..

I see absolutely nothing wrong with the #DoctorWho #Season21 boxset, all looks fine to me!

@meddler_returns We can only hope for a reprint with a new master for Season 13 and 21 at this point. 15 and the others before 13 were on the edge, but the last two are such a hot mess. The new extras are amazing, but that's where it stops unfortunately.

So are the collection sets essentially just over now? Are they just going to continue to ruin episodes with awful ai upscales and just make them unwatchable because I feel like its been a few now

@AndrewOnSeeAIR The quality of this and Macra so far are still unmatched by anything that has been released since. The 3D work here and the 2D work on Macra are so incredibly good and it's all gone downhill since :(
