gonna be trying this out again, didn't really get that into using it last time, but we'll see how the transition goes this time around. don't really like juggling social media accounts, so it'd be nice to just pick one and stick with it lol

@FNF_Connoisseur yeye this exactly! that interest for the subject kind of hides the learning process from you, even though that's exactly what's happening. if you're not interested in the minutia, and just want the immediate end result, of course practice and learning's gonna suck for you lol

@Shadrow0 Reading this has reminded me of what Daniel Thrasher had to say about talent. He believed that talent is just a deep interest in something overtime that makes you motivated to get good at something, even if it takes just as much effort and practice as any other hobby.

talent will always be a difficult subject to discuss, but in recent years i wound up reframing it as an innate *passion* for a thing, rather than an innate *ability*. you still have to work to hone that ability, but you're mentally wired to want to keep at it because you love it

(also i am not a psychologist. these are personal feelings based on experience and observations, but i could be very wrong about all of it lol)

i believe, outside of rare exceptions, anyone can learn artistic skills. the talent is in wanting to do so, because your brain is simply wired to enjoy improving on said skills. "untalented" people can learn and improve too, but it requires more mental effort to choose to do so

@greenyglass aaaa my sympathies, hunting for computer parts is *really* rough right now. i'd maybe recommend the version of RE1 on steam? it's an HD port of the gamecube remake so it might be easier to run, though not quite the same style of gameplay as the more recent ones

@greenyglass if you can manage to build a tolerance for scary games, they're absolutely worth it. easier said than done obviously lol, but resident evil's gameplay systems are so satisfying; capcom's been absolutely knocking them out of the park since 7 (other than *maybe* the RE3 remake)

@godbwyescott it mostly boils down to a combination of "read the room" and "think before you act": do your best to get a good understanding of the emotional state or expectations of your audience, and then use that to respond and interact tactfully. avoid kneejerk reactions if possible too

@Shadrow0 So what would you say is your best advice for good optics, besides just that you should try to have them?

if there's one thing i've noticed that seems to be lacking lately, (other than just, like, kindness, respect, decency, etc.), it would probably be a basic understanding of optics. too many people don't seem to respect how their actions make them appear to those around them

(also this is not universal advice, especially when your audience really is just a hate mob) ((see i'm trying to account for a possible interpretation it's really not that hard)) (((someone accuses me of hating waffles anyway)))

basically your two options are either learn how not to piss people off, or constantly be confused and annoyed that people are always pissed at you "for no reason" or just turn into a complete asshole and stop caring, that works too i guess
