You cannot imagine how happy it makes me to be editing a legit boxing writer and publishing their work in @CircusBazaar. I have literally sat and watched The #ThrillainManila hundreds of times — old #boxing fights are basically the metronome of my soul. The colours and fonts I use for CB are taken from the golden era of the sport; their whole vibe constitutes a huge part of my aesthetic vision — and even world view. I can't say it enough: I am very happy about this. Big respect to @mad_aboutboxing for joining CB in this exciting new direction for our Arts & Entertainment section. AKA: Buffoonery. lol

50 years on, The Thrilla in Manila still defines boxing — pugilistic poetry and a brutal rivalry that transcended sport. By Mark Daniel from @mad_aboutboxing @MuhammadAli Read: eu1.hubs.ly/H0nqDBp0 #muhammadali #joefraizer #GOAT #boxing #thrillainmanilla #thegreatest

The West crumpled under it's own cognitive politics, make no mistake about that. The house of modernity stormed by it's own actants etc etc.

The idea that something can be blatantly false yet directionally true is often criticized in #religious thought, yet no institution relies on it more heavily than the #secular state, its communications departments — and their various extensions.

In November 2021, I had the privilege of writing and producing Nuclear Climate Change, an immersive opera that premiered at @stirlingcastle during COP26. As the owner of @TheCBCompany, this was one of the most ambitious projects I’ve ever undertaken. We brought together actors and musicians from around the world, worked with world-class theatre direction, and built an experience with original music, an original script, and stunning visual design and photography. The performance — presented by the International Forum for Understanding — featured a monologue by Asle Toje of the Norwegian Nobel Committee and a keynote by @clparthemore of the @CSRisks, before a panel discussion that connected the themes of nuclear war and climate breakdown. For me, the project was about more than performance. It was about asking how storytelling can make abstract, existential risks feel immediate and human — and how creativity can open new ways of thinking at the very highest levels of global dialogue. Even now, I see the trailer as a piece of art in its own right, capturing the spirit of what we built together.

In November 2021, @TheCBCompany brought its creativity to the global stage at @COP26. At the historic @stirlingcastle, we developed and staged Nuclear Climate Change — an immersive opera exploring the dual existential threats of nuclear war and climate breakdown. Presented by the @Ifoundglobal, this groundbreaking production was a true international collaboration. We brought together actors and musicians from across the world, combining an original script, original music composition, world-class theatre direction, and stunning visual effects and photography. The result was a performance that fused art and advocacy in a way rarely seen at global summits. The opera featured a monologue by Asle Toje (Deputy Leader of the Norwegian Nobel Committee) and a keynote by @clparthemore (CEO of the @CSRisks), followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion. Even the trailer itself is a work of art — capturing the atmosphere, scale, and creativity that defined this project. For us at The Circus Bazaar Company, Nuclear Climate Change was more than a performance — it was proof of how imaginative storytelling can spark conversation and inspire new ways of thinking about the world’s most urgent challenges. When I wrote the burning of the American flag into the script of Hate Speech (2022), it wasn’t because I hated #America. It was because I believed in America enough to be certain I could do it without fear of political retribution. That confidence in freedom was the entire point. I wanted to make something that pushed boundaries. So we burned books, we burned flags, and we ridiculed every faction of Western #democracy that tried to suppress speech. It wasn’t about destruction. It was about freedom. It was art. And it’s a production I am still proud of. This week @realDonaldTrump announced he wants to ban flag burning and hand out one-year prison sentences to anyone who does it. If that becomes reality, then my film itself is evidence — and I become a criminal, not for violence or hate, but for creating art. I can’t and won’t accept that. I live and work from the conviction that freedom of speech is an innate, fundamental right, and I see almost no circumstance in which it can be justifiably suppressed. #HateSpeechFilm #CircusBazaar #FreedomOfSpeech #FreedomOfExpression #ArtAsProtest #FirstAmendment #Censorship #FreeSpeechMatters #DefendFreeSpeech #ConstitutionalRights #CivilLiberties #HumanRights #Democracy #NoFreeSpeechNoFreedom #FlagBurning #ArtIsFreedom #PoliticalArt #ControversialArt #BannedArt #ProvocationThroughArt #DissentIsPatriotic #ArtAsResistance #PowerOfArt #IndependentFilm #IndieFilm #FilmMaking #CinemaAsArt #FilmAsProtest #FilmIsArt #ArtistVoices #CreativeFreedom #DonaldTrump #USPolitics #America #AmericanFreedom #PoliticalFreedom #ResistCensorship

When we burned the American flag in Hate Speech (2022), it was never out of hatred for #America. It was because we believed America to be so free that such an act could exist without fear of retribution. That was the point of the film — to test the very boundaries of freedom of expression. We burned books, we burned flags, and we held up a mirror to every faction across Western #democracies that sought to suppress speech. It was not an attack; it was a celebration of #liberty. It was art, and we remain proud of it. Now @realDonaldTrump wants to ban flag burning and lock people away for a year for doing it. If such a law were to exist, our film itself would become the evidence, and we would be branded criminals for creating art. At @TheCBCompany, we reject that future outright. #Freedomofspeech is not a luxury to be handed out when convenient — it is an innate, fundamental, and unshakable right. We will never stand by and watch it be dismantled. Legitimacy is not procedural. Never has been. The administrative state exists to fill a void. Complex mass ritual. There's only one thing that everyone knows legitimizes the state.

Interviewing @Stommedia, President of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, reminded me how messy the business of “truth” really is in wartime. On one hand, journalism is supposed to shine light where power prefers darkness. On the other, governments at war — even democratic ones — are rarely eager for truly independent reporting. Ukraine is no exception. What struck me was Serhiy’s candor: Russian propaganda is relentless and brutal, but Ukrainian journalists also face pressure from their own state. Press freedom doesn’t suddenly become easy just because your country is on the “right” side of the war. I didn’t come away starry-eyed. Instead, I came away with a sharper sense of the contradictions: journalism as both a weapon and a shield, both vital and vulnerable. And in that tension lies its real importance. Journalism under fire. In this edition of The Big Tent Podcast, @ShaneACaldwell, Editor of @CircusBazaar Magazine, speaks with @Stommedia, President of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine. Together they explore what truth means in a time of war, how Russian propaganda is wielded as a weapon, the dangers Ukrainian journalists face under occupation, and why press freedom is inseparable from sovereignty itself. Tomilenko reminds us: journalism is not only about reporting facts — it is about defending identity, democracy, and the very possibility of freedom. History doesn’t march forward — it swings. From Rubashov’s Soviet prison cell to today’s AI-driven world, @JackGoldsmith revisits Arthur Koestler’s theory of relative maturity: every technological leap renders societies politically immature, opening the door for tyranny until we catch up. Are we once again at that tipping point? The post–Soviet era is over. What comes next is darker, more archaic, and more dangerous. In this powerful essay, Vadym Yakovlev examines how Ukraine and Russia have drifted from post-Soviet cynicism into nationalist and militarised projects that consume individual freedom. From the instrumentalisation of #LGBTQ rights to forced mobilisation and cultural erasure, the contradictions of both states reveal a tragic irony: the death of the post–Soviet era has not brought liberation, but new prisons of ideology.
