The rules around reinstating a retired horse need to be addressed. Retired is retired. It shouldn't matter if a box was ticked or not.

This is really disappointing 2 see. An 8yo mare that suffered cardiac arrythmia, we retired her because she didnt want to run through it anymore. 5k buy that won us 210k! owes nothing!Sold to be a broodmare but a greedy owner is going to race her again @RVStewards @RacingVictoria

In more good news, the owner agreed to sell Mad Darcey back to us. She's coming home!

Thank goodness. Mad Darcey is now listed (again) as retired.

Because 1. She is 7 and doesn't want to do it anymore 2. Her lungs are probably no good from near death pneumonia. The very reasons she was retired by us. Bill Benson, Rex Lipp @Racing_QLD @QRICStewardsTHB do the right thing.

What an absolute disgrace @Racing_QLD @QRICStewardsTHB you have failed Mad Darcey and her welfare being permitted to race. Ran last, beaten at least 10 lengths. People need to be held to account for this including Rex Lipp, Bill Benson who bought her as a broodmare and stewards

Failing to seek previous owners views which the rules state they must. Despite vigorous objections, she is still set to race at Ipswich today. This is an absolute disgrace and the reinstatement rules that allows a new owner to race a retired horse must change.

Animal welfare? What a disgrace @Racing_QLD @QRICStewardsTHB Mad Darcey was retired by her loving owners as a 7yo after severe pneumonia. She was loved by a large owner group and kids. Sold as a broodmare only. Her new owner has had her reinstated to race in QLD despite stewards

@debbie_prest So the welfare of a horse depends on correct paperwork? Stewards acknowledged they did not seek our views when they should have. Therefore the "box" must have been ticked

@ShaneDuff72 They must seek previous owners views IF the box is ticked & a reason given.
I don't agree with reinstating a horse after retirement, but the owners must fill in the paperwork correctly to ensure this doesnt happen.
If they did do the paperwork correctly then that's different.

@debbie_prest Surely retired means retired regardless of whether a box was ticked? In any case stewards did not follow the rules whereby they must seek the previous owners views

@ShaneDuff72 Did the owners fill in the retirement form correctly? Easy to miss the part where you state never to race.
