PETA UK has released footage showing a horse collapsing from exhaustion in Egypt, with workers responding by hitting and kicking the animal until it was forced back onto its feet. The organisation is calling on Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to immediately ban horse-drawn carriages, which remain a common feature at tourist sites across the country. Horses used in the tourism industry in Egypt frequently work long hours in extreme heat, carrying heavy loads of passengers with inadequate rest, food, and water. Welfare organisations have documented widespread suffering among working horses at major sites including the Pyramids of Giza, Luxor, and other popular destinations. PETA UK is urging supporters to contact the Egyptian tourism ministry directly and demand an end to the practice. The organisation argues that Egypt's government has both the power and the responsibility to stop the abuse and transition to humane, vehicle-based alternatives for tourist transport.
