Kaito Onishi just earned his PGA Tour card and why one stroke over an entire season changed his life.
Last season Onishi came into the final event before the Tour Championship 107th in points. He needed to finish in the top 100 in points to keep conditional status.
He opened with a 4-over 75 that week and was well outside the cut line. However, a second round 67, including two late birdies, allowed him to make the cut by two.
However he struggled again in the third round, shooting 76 and was well outside the top 100 in points. He would need an amazing last round.
And he got it.
A final round 67 that included a four hole stretch where Onishi went 5-under, vaulted him up the leaderboard 34 spots. But there would still be a wait to see if it was good enough.
AJ Crouch had a chance to jump him on the points list and was two hours behind him.
Crouch birdied the last hole and finished T11. Had he finished 1 stroke better, he would have knocked Onishi to 101st. Crouch finished 2 points out 100th.
Martin Contini who missed the cut that week finished 101st, and just one point less than Onishi.
Kaito Onishi kept his conditional card by one stroke....over the entire season. 22 events and nearly 5700 strokes, and it came down to one stroke.
Couch played mini-tours this year, Contini played Americas Tour but lost his card there. Kaito Onishi is headed to the PGA Tour.
Onishi would go back to first stage in hopes to improve his status, but WD when he was far outside the number to advance. Had he finished 101st in points he would have had no status at all this season.
However he got into the 3rd KFT event this season based on his 100th place finish in points last season and finished T8. From there he reshuffled in, meaning he would get into almost all of the events the rest of the year. He won just a few weeks later.
He is now headed to the PGA Tour. One stroke over an entire season changed his life.

USC had plenty of their own opportunities to end this game on their own terms, but man, Lucas beats his man, fills the gap, and 83 holds him so egregiously that he literally gets pulled out of the gap.
Michigan did not have a SINGLE holding call on 46 rush attempts…

“I’ll never forget what Eddy said to Gil. He told him to make this place his legacy. We provided a great piece of land and a great budget. He told Gil that if this wasn’t a great golf course, it was his fault.” - Irving Azoff

@Eldricks_hoes Black doesn’t belong on a golf course at all unless it’s 55 degrees or under. This is a hill I will die on.
