Then one day, a governor visited the prison and asked me: “Baba, how old are you, and why are you here?” With tears in my eyes, I replied: “I am 60 years old. I came here when I was 13.” The governor was shocked and cried. An investigation began, and we discovered that the police officer who arrested me had become a powerful traditional ruler. I was taken to his palace. He begged for forgiveness and offered to build me a house and find me a wife. I told him: “You took my childhood. You took my youth. You took my entire life. I don’t need a house or a wife. My life is already gone.” I was eventually granted amnesty and given help to start a small business. Today, I am 78 years old.
