Blog Post: I have messed around with wanting to start a blog for a few years now. I spent some time just writing my thoughts on education down over the break so I thought now is the time to be more consistent with it. mrandersonblog.weebly.com/blog/one-word-…

Such great messages for supporting student perseverance with @JacobAClifford at #AP_Conf in Seattle. No syllabus on the first day, teach your best lesson. “The goal of the first day should be to make them excited about the second day!” Miss classroom teaching in these moments.

Great discussion at the AP Annual Conference on looking at potential changes to the AP assessment format. AP looking at implementing more project based assessment into the final exam mark. A passionate student talk in support to relieve the pressure of all or nothing test taking.

It was a pleasure to be a part of telling the amazing story of Sentinel Stage. Shows the importance of a safe, multi grade school environment where teenagers can develop a sense of belonging! #belonging #westvaned youtu.be/3cfNNXvdL78

So excited to be at closing night of Sentinel Stage’s production, “You Can’t Take It With you”. Today, a special thanks to the parents for feeding the crew on the last and longest day of the show run. @WestVanSchools #westvaned #theatre

Such an amazing experience to join @tarazielinski this morning at Santa’s Workshop (Ecole Pauline Johnson). 20 French Immersion Alumni volunteered to support Primary students with shopping and wrapping presents for their families. Bucket is full before the break.

Labeling something formative does not make it so. An assessment is only formative when it's used formatively, so considering the subsequent action following the gathering of evidence is crucial; formative data collection without action is pointless & not formative #ATAssessment

My daughter had talked for several years about how much she loved her 5th grade teacher. When I finally asked her what she liked about that teacher, this was her response: “She liked US!” So simple… yet so profound. Kids gravitate to the teachers that like them.

My classroom management improved when I focused more on creativity and collaboration and less on compliance. Instead of trying to catch kids doing things wrong, we celebrated the amazing things they did well, and those “things” got exponentially better because the fear was gone.
