Jesse Jackson represents the possibilities and limits of Black freedom struggles to break the back of US-style oppression. He left no tactic untried or strategy untested, taking a baton from the generations that killed US Apartheid and juggling various approaches to Black Power, self determination, electoral politics and global solidarity and diplomacy. How we reflect on his life will measure our own understanding or ignorance about the last four generations of US politics.
