Votes with 99% yes are pretty useless. Means we didn’t need to waste everyone’s time. Imho, each simd once the core devs accept should automatically create a vote and be an automatic yes unless 11% vote no. Then the supermajority of the quorum is needed to pass. 11% is the min no needed to fail anything that meets quorum, so basically it’s not any easier or harder to pass any simd that’s controversial. Is this a good idea?

Memecoins and NFTs are good

Lots of thoughtful comments about account compression. Mostly to the effect of "its bad UX to have account compressed for you by the protocol, why don't we just teach devs how to compress accounts". In my opinion this is not a sufficient solution to the problem. A large fraction of Solana accounts that have not been touched in the last year are likely abandoned and will never be touhed again. The reality is, the price of short term account allocation is too high, and the price of long term account allocation is too low. If you raise the rent, then you make the long term account costs go up, fixing one problem but making the other worse. I grew up ~45 minute drive from Detroit. There are a lot of houses in Detroit that were abandoned when the housing market colapsed after the decline of the auto industry. These houses cause a big negative externality to people who live around them, lowering property values. The best thing to do is knock those houses down. We cant go and teach the owners of those houses how to fix up the houses and sell them because the owners do not care. They are gone, the houses are abandoned. So the City of Detroit has in many cases used public funds to knock these houses down. Its nice to think that every problem is caused by a dev skill issue but when the problem is actually that long term storage is too cheap and short term storage is too expensive, the solution is actually to let people who want short term storage pay less for short term storage and then compress their accounts once they don't want it anymore. If they want to pay some more to remain in the hot state we should let them do that and uncompress their account.
