60 years ago today, the Miners made history and broke down barriers. On March 19, 1966, Don Haskins' squad defeated Kentucky, 72-65, becoming the first team ever to start five black players and win the national championship. #PicksUp

Spencer Laird was 26 when he was diagnosed with colon cancer. At 30, he was told it had returned and spread to his lungs, with one tumor the size of a golf ball. His doctor said Laird would likely have only about two years to live, even with treatment. Laird became one of 15 patients enrolled in the trial in February 2025. Parsa Fallah obviously didn’t need to come do media after suffering that injury, but he had a message to #okstate fans. Keep tissues close.

James Van Der Beek was someone so many of us grew up watching, but beyond the screen, he was a husband, a father of six, and a man who chose to face colorectal cancer with honesty and courage. By sharing his diagnosis publicly, James helped shine a light on a disease that is too often overlooked, especially among younger adults. His openness gave other families permission to talk about the hard things, to ask questions, and to seek screening. Our hearts are with his wife, his children, and everyone who loved him. We stand with them and with every family navigating colorectal cancer right now. In James’ memory, learn your risk, talk to your doctor about screening starting at 45 (or earlier if you’re at higher risk), and support research through Project Cure CRC at colorectalcancer.org/cureCRC. We honor his life, his legacy, and the love he leaves behind. Photo Courtesy of Super Festivals.
