@DmytroMikhalok I hope so, the last of the single family units were prefabricated and costed around 400k per unit. Only because the GN is required to contract mostly NNI registered companies. That was 10 yrs ago. The way anything works economically around here sucks. A NU specific “Balkan” reg

@Shekatsak Would prebuilt home modules, shipped from South and authorizing local contractors to assemble could work?

But, we do have a housing crisis, where Housing corporation has a policy of licensed contractors required for building and renos…guess what? We don’t have anything like that other than the larger NU centres. Those already contracted to do public units are unavailable

It’s a lose-lose situation that everyone is comfortable with, I guess. IDK…. long live Iqaluit economy!

We’re made up of mostly public housing units. Except, now, people with higher incomes come first. Anyone who can become a home owner are actually taking up the valuable public units, leaving the vulnerable aside.

But, then, these high incomes earners don’t pay rent regularly and end up accruing debt that would total a down payment, because of the rent to income ratio.
