Justin Pearson from entering the committee room as Republicans voted to eliminate the state’s only Black-majority district.   Tennessee lawmakers passed a new congressional map, breaking up the state’s only majority-Black congressional district.  So Tennessee Republicans just split up Memphis, a city that is 63% Black, and stretched its voters across three congressional districts (some reaching nearly 200 miles away) specifically to dilute Black voting power and eliminate their political voice.

#TrumpIsUnfitForOffice  #wtpBLUE    WE THE PEOPLE   The U.S. trade court has ruled against Trump's latest 10% global tariffs, finding across-the-board tariffs were not justified under a 1970s trade law.  In his February order, Trump invoked Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, which allows for duties for up to 150 days to correct serious "balance of payments deficits" or head off an imminent depreciation of the dollar, but the court ruled that the law was not an appropriate step for the kinds of trade deficits that Trump cited in his February 24th order.   The small business plaintiffs successfully argued that the new tariffs were an attempt to sidestep a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that struck down Trump’s 2025 tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.

Hurst III told lawmakers Tuesday morning during a House Appropriations hearing.  Two weeks ago, Hurst testified it was $25 billion, and now says the updated number comes after accounting for "replacement of equipment costs and also just general operational costs keep people in theater."   Inflation is up to 3.8%, the highest in 3 years.

#TrumpIsUnfitForOffice       #wtpBLUE      WE THE PEOPLE   wtp3086   A federal appeals court panel appears likely to reject Pentagon attempts to punish Sen. Mark Kelly for advising troops to disobey illegal orders, another potential victory for the rising Trump administration foe and likely 2028 presidential candidate.  Kelly, a Navy veteran and former astronaut, faces a potential retirement demotion and a reduction in his benefits for comments that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has labeled “seditious.”   Kelly and five other Democratic lawmakers last November released a video warning that the Trump administration was “pitting our uniformed military and intelligence community professionals against American citizens,” and telling troops they are not required to obey illegal military orders as he accurately quoted the U.S. Military Code of Conduct.   But no matter how the appeals court rules, the case is likely to end up before the Supreme Court.

That increase marked the biggest one-month jump in grocery prices in nearly four years.  On an annualized basis, fresh vegetable prices are more than 44% higher today than they were three months ago.  Other basic necessities like bread and milk have risen by a more modest 8% and 5% over that same time period, respectively.  Over the past three months, the price of coffee at the grocery store has been rising at a pace that works out to more than 22% annually.
