@susanainjersey Maybe you should actually compile of table of what tax free benefits they could have received instead say with two kids - and not put up with so much abuse - bigger salaries but please less politicians looking at the standard of some of the candidates

Are we getting value for money from our "recurring" politicians? As someone who supports increasing the salary of States Members, in order to attract people from the private sector, I am astounded at the tenure of some of our repeat candidates, and think it is useful to quantify how much they are costing us. In this list I am looking only at members who've had more than one mandate prior to 2022.

@JonathanRenouf Incorrect - if they leave the HVR regime they pay tax like everyone else - they do not retain their HVR tax status

To add that is it soc sec not JET are possibly over staffed and the civil servants are empire building - if they have hoodwinked the minister then she has to go

Think you may find that they could be overstaffed and someone may just be empire building !

Remember there is generally a definition of food for indirect tax purposes so an average grocery shop will still have a lot of GST on it for example cakes biscuits loo rolls crisps soft drinks washing powder etc - nightmare for small shops so don’t think the price won’t increase

So a £2m government handout to jersey business basically to deal with red tape created by Government - if this was really value for money then private enterprise would be all over it …. Private enterprise is not so one must question whether this is just another waste of money

That equates to an additional tax allowance of over £23k per child whilst pensioners effectively get taxed twice on their Jerseys pensions so a difference in allowances of about £38k (or about £10k in state contribution) - does not seem that our system is very fair ….

You could change the rules and offer the post to the first loser in the last election and so on if it’s really so important to have another member in the house for the remainder of the term
