New officers in Sheridan! We had a swearing in ceremony for two recruits on March 18, 2026. One of them is Trung Nguyen. He comes to us with 6 years of experience. He moved to the United States with his family from Vietnam and he's back where his foundation started. He grew up here in Sheridan and went to Sheridan Middle School. Welcome!

New officers in Sheridan! Two new recruits were sworn in March 18, 2026. Justis Reder brings 10 years of experience, following in his father's footsteps who had 28 years in law enforcement. He became fast friends with our other new officer, Trung Nguyen. Nguyen pinned on his badge before taking photos with Chief of Police Jeff Martinez. Welcome to Sheridan!

It's a thankless job. Sitting in a van clocking speeders as they zoom past. After a short retirement this deputy sheriff continues to serve and was just given the support the shield award by @KDVR kdvr.com/news/support-t…

It can be a thankless job. Sitting in a van for hours clocking speeders as they zoom by. That's what Hans Gross does for the Sheridan Police Department. @KDVR and reporter Dan Daru came to the City of Sheridan, CO Government to honor him. Hans Gross received the "Support the Shield" award. This is something Fox 31 hands out each month to someone making a difference in their police department. Hans! We're lucky to have you. watch here: cosheridan-my.sharepoint.com/.../IQBjBJM90j…

It's promotion time! Officer Phouratsamay Chanthavong is now a Sergeant. His large family was there to support him on Feb 5, 2026. City Manager Devin Granbery and Police Chief Jeff Martinez were all smiles and so were his fellow officers! Congratulations "PC!"

"Bones" highlights from training day. Sheridan Police K9 handler, John Nelson, wants officers to be comfortable with bones during high-risk traffic stops. They saw how strong his grip is and how he reacts to an uncompliant "suspect" in the passenger seat. Thanks to @ArvadaPolice and @BroomfieldPD for your partnership. It was impressive to see the focus and intensity of the officers during their training.

Officer Ralph exemplifies what it means to be a Sheridan Police Officer. That bike you see in the photo he just bought with his own money. On Dec. 1, 2025, he responded to a report of a bike theft. The victim, whose hearing impaired, used her Victims Advocate to explain that her bike was missing. When she came home the day before, her service dog alerted that something was wrong and led her to the back patio where she keeps her bike. The bike was given to her by her Victims Advocate two years ago when she was a victim of domestic violence. After the call, Officer Ralph went to Target on his own accord and bought a new bike for her. Thank you, Officer Ralph for showing true character to those in need.

We have a new sergeant on the force in Sheridan. Brandon Hughes was promoted on January 20, 2026. His wife pinned on his badge with his family there to support him. Sheridan Police Chief, Jeff Martinez, reminded Sgt. Hughes that the badge is heavy and so are the extra stripes but is confident he’s ready for the challenge. Congratulations, Sgt. Hughes!

How’s this for a new year’s resolution: SLOW DOWN! Attached is video of a crash at Highway 285 and Riverpoint Parkway in Sheridan. In December 2025, after the light turned yellow, a car stopped suddenly because the light was about to turn red. The car behind this vehicle was going too fast to stop and crashed into the rear of the stopped vehicle. This is a textbook example of the need to slow down. The numbers don’t lie. In 2025 our one red-light camera at that intersection caught 8,699 violations. Our speed van that is placed in various parts of the city and is clearly marked as a photo radar vehicle, documented 6,762 speeding violations. This is after drivers passed a sign notifying them the speed van is ahead. Imagine how many additional drivers were speeding prior to observing the sign warning of the enforcement. We use these systems to reduce speed and to save lives. We would prefer to have zero violations because that would mean drivers are following the rules of the road. In fact, that is why we post signs notifying them that we are using photo enforcement. The message is simple: speed kills. Sheridan Police Chief Jeff Martinez reminds us that school is back in session so “Please stay safe in 2026, be alert and slow down.”

NEWS RELEASE: Suspected Bank Robber Behind Bars The Sheridan Police Department helped capture a man wanted for robbing two banks in the metro area. On January 2, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force confirmed the subject was staying at a home in Sheridan on South Canosa Court, so officers secured the home to prevent an escape. After a standoff, a tactical team entered, and 54-year-old Timothy Reed was arrested. Thanks to the partnership of @SheridanPolice , the Safe Streets Task Force and the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, a suspected criminal is no longer a threat to our community. @ArapahoeSO @FBIDenver

Police stop scammer in the nick of time “These cases are very rarely solved and unfortunately the victims are left with nothing more than a filed police report, but not this time. Thanks to Detective Jeremy Wolff, his tenacious investigation allowed him to intercept a man's life savings from the scammer who nearly had it in his hands,” according to Sheridan Police Chief Jeff Martinez. The man fell for a convincing one. His computer stopped working and he got a call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft. He said his computer had been hacked and his social security number was being used to open a line of credit for a mortgage. He even received documents supposedly from Wells Fargo and the Social Security Administration, which added credibility. In a panic, he did as he was told and withdrew $30,000 in cash and shipped it with UPS. He believed he would get the money back once the “investigator” with the Social Security Administration tracked down the hackers. Afterwards, he began worrying it was a scam and went to Sheridan Police to file a report. Instead of chalking it up to just another tragic con job, Detective Wolff acted quickly to see if he could track the money before it was delivered. He worked with UPS and did, in fact, trace the money to Downey, CA. Police there intercepted it from a UPS store in town. The man received a check for the full amount and is extremely grateful to Sheridan Police for finding his money before it was too late. Thank you to Fox31, CBS4 and Littleton Independent for covering this important story as a warning to never send cash and always call police if you're suspicious of a potential scam.
