@elonmusk Correction: 60% of the research award money might be misleading. It’s 60% of the direct cost, and 60/(100+60)~ 40% of the total cost. It may still sound high to many people but not as bad as 60%. Should look at DOE labs, the IDC rate is a 3-digit number.

Last year, $9B of the $35B that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) granted for research was used for administrative overhead, what is known as “indirect costs.” Today, NIH lowered the maximum indirect cost rate research institutions can charge the government to 15%, above what many major foundations allow and much lower than the 60%+ that some institutions charge the government today. This change will save more than $4B a year effective immediately.

I used to say, in Belgium, drink beer (you can see me drink a Leffe Rituel in Brussels 1 week ago) and in France, drink wine. But climate change is making Belgium a very good sparkling wine region- I drank a Ruffus Brut and it was on par with French champagnes!

In this new manuscript, we investigated the ion transport properties of 40 (!) commercial IEMs to establish the conductivity/selectivity trade-off relationship, generate structure-property relations, and identify gaps in our understanding of transport. pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac…
