@JB_SLT I did a course on EMST in 2019 with Brooke Richardson and she had compiled a lot of the evidence for EMST in stroke and the main population to wait in was haemorrhaging strokes. It was advised to wait 1 month post haemorrhaging stroke before commencing EMST

The message was that due to the nature of doing forced exhalations against resistance there may be safety concerns with #EMST in the stroke population. Hence there are ALOT of contraindications. We shouldn't be doing it in acute stroke stroke unless part of a trial. #uksf23

Some interesting ideas being pitched in our Dragon’s Den Dysphagia session! Dr @JB_SLT introduced us to Expiratory Muscle Strength Training (EMST). Evidence suggests that EMST can reduce the likelihood of aspiration and problems with pharyngeal clearance. #UKSF23
