Why did I do this? After watching for several months from 6000 miles away, I was offended by the fact that former federal prosecutors in Big Law weren't stepping forward to help. There was no shortage of defense attorneys for GITMO terrorists. But they stayed in their offices worried about how their corporate clients might react if they stepped forward to help the deplorables. It made me embarrassed for my former colleagues. And that made me mad. That's why.

When I was locked up, had all income and VA benefits cut off, I told my wife to send our story and fundraiser to all the media outlets we could. One man responded to her. @jimhoft_ He shared our story and helped us get by a few more months. Pray for Jim! joehoft.com/prayers-gatewa…

This is just stupid. She had the option to issue a TRO for 48 hours, and have a regularly scheduled hearing to hear from the Admin. about the claims being made. IT'S RIGHT THERE IN THE RULES!!!!!!! No need for this kind of nonsense and drama. But that's who she is.
Kyle Cheney@kyledcheney

JUST IN: Judge Reyes has demanded a Trump administration response by *7:30am* and a hearing at 8am on a claim that Trump is pursuing major redevlopment of DC-based golf courses, despite assurances that no work was underway.

So I hear Thomas Massie cut a new Ad that says how much he agrees with Pres. Trump and how much work they still have to do together. And then ran a fundraising blitz to raise money so he could get the ad on TV before the primary coming up. That just SCREAMS out that he knows he's got this one in the bag. His problem is he has run into a challenger with a far more compelling case for being in Office. I was a Massie fan for many years. But he turned the premise for all his efforts into platforms for his self-aggrandizement.

Answer me this: what safeguards exist to prevent the FBI/DOJ (republican or democrat) from breaking down your door, throwing you in jail pretrial, and indicted you for bogus charges? What recourse would you have? So long as the answer is "none" we are not a free country.

You have now accurately described Judge Anna Reyes. She's the same way on the bench in the courtroom. She is the absolute FARTHEST thing from what you would consider a neutral passive receiver of information, and detached decision-maker. EVERYTHING she decides is caught up in her own biases.
Jimmy Buffett Fan, Esq.@jimmy_esq

This is insane. A 9:52pm order demanding an update by 7:30am? In what world does Judge Reyes seriously believe it will be possible to get a responsive answer from the client by then? This kind of stuff just smacks of performativity and bias, especially given how low stakes it is.

Well, I guess you "impression" could be more accurate than my 42 months of work on J6 cases.
Charles Dorfman@CharlesDor3m

@shipwreckedcrew Not sure about this. Under the impression that the additional offenses piled on were found to be invalid. And many many were needlessly detained because of a corrupted DC justice system.

I think the business was much better positioned to benefit from the second term -- look how much money it lost in the first term by a lack of planning. Better planning to avoid a loss -- who wouldn't do that ahead of 2024? At the same time, you have a massive post-COVID bounce around the world. Short of Trump Inc. reducing all its assets to cash and putting the money in a mutual fund, it is going to move with the industries it was invested in.
ScofieldRocks@kkashlan

@shipwreckedcrew Here is the difference. From '01 to '24, Trump went from about $1.8B to $2.3B net worth (roughly a 1.08% annualized return) '01 - '16 (6.4% annualized) Since 2nd Term-> (about 175% annualized) But... "nothing to see here..."

By 2015, Trump Inc., was largely about branding and not so much real estate development. Most "Trump Hotels" are not owned by Trump Inc., and when there is an ownership stake it is usually a minority position. They are mostly owned by REITs and other real estate partnerships. Trump Inc. makes its money on branding and as a hotel operator same as Hilton and Marriott. It's value was not so much in physical assets, but its cash-flow as a going concern.
Michael S. Freeman@Citizen54S

Your multi-billion dollar valuation of the Trump Organization pre-2016 has to be heavily discounted because asset value was inflated to a degree that no claims made by Trump can be believed. And NO president has exploited the office more than him and his family, including Kushner, in ways that other presidents would find unthinkable. Your attempt to whitewash his naked greed with "same as it ever was" is 100% unconvincing.

Not a single defendant charged only with misdemeanor offenses was detained in custody pending trial. And "solitary confinement" is also called "Administrative Segregation." Jacob Chansley was the only J6 defendant held at the Alexandria Jail rather than DOC because of special dietary needs. He was held in "Ad. Seg." because he was at risk of being harmed by other inmates in that facility, not because he was being "punished." There were no J6 defendants for him to be housed with.
Lara Logan@laralogan

Ask the Jan 6 defendants about “improper pretrial punishment” - how many were held in solitary confinement while facing non-violent misdemeanor charges?

In the first five months prior to the D.C. Cir. decision in Munchel that dramatically narrowed Judge Howell's multi-factor test in Chrestman that the other Judges adopted and followed. Since I briefed detention more than once, and appealed two detention orders to the D.C. Cir. within the first year, I suspect I have better grasp on the subject prior to and after the Munchel decision than you do.
Justin Onimous@JustinOnimous

@shipwreckedcrew You’re saying 30-40% were held for non-violent offenses? And you’re sticking with that?
