In UP's Muzaffarnagar, at least 12 bonded labourers were freed from a paper plate manufacturing unit. Narrating their ordeal, labourers claimed they were tortured using fan belt whip and spear. Roti made of cattle feed and salt was served in the meal. Rottweiler was stationed as gaurds to ensure none of labourers flee from captivity. Main accused Ankit Baliyan is still on the run.

FIFTY ONE deaths in Telangana due to heatwave yesterday! 51 people died in ONE SINGLE DAY! And it is not even the main news anywhere! This brings the total to 107 heatwave deaths in just three days. At least another four more days of heatwave conditions are expected. Highest number of deaths were reported from Warangal yesterday. 23 deaths were from this district alone. Temperatures are touching 42 to 46 degrees in Telangana. Imagine if 51 people died in a single day in a flight crash or a road accident or a stampede or a bridge collapse - we would have all been angry. With heatwave, we all tend to accuse the Sun and move on. Heatwave isn’t act of God. It is a direct result of mindless tree chopping our governments are doing in the name of development. Global warming & Climate change are real!!!

Imagine stepping outside at 6 PM and the air is still 42.1°C. Now add enough humidity to push the wet-bulb temperature to 29.1°C. That's what I measured today in Bhalswa, Delhi. The human body cools itself by evaporating sweat. At wet-bulb temperatures like this, that defense starts failing. A wet-bulb of 29°C is already in the range where prolonged outdoor work becomes dangerous. And this is after sunset is approaching, not at peak afternoon heat.

Midnight in New Delhi. Date: 21 May 2026 Air temperature: 31°C Surface temperature: 39.3°C The ground beneath us was still over 8°C hotter than the surrounding air after midnight This is why I focus on surface temperatures rather than just air temperatures. Concrete and asphalt dominate our cities. We walk on them, wait on them, drive over them, and live around them. They absorb enormous amounts of heat during the day and continue releasing it at night. This is the urban heat island effect in action and one reason why nights are getting warmer in our cities.

Thousands of Adivasi men and women are protesting under the scorching Odisha sun against the proposed expansion of Kodingamali mining and the plan to increase supply 6 million tonnes of bauxite to Vedanta every year. They speak of polluted water, damaged forests, loss of livelihoods, and threats to their very existence. Yet, not a single prominent leader from any major political party is standing beside them. When elections come, tribals are called the “soul of India.” But when they fight for their land, forests, and dignity, the political class disappears. Development cannot mean silencing the people who pay its highest price.

the point lost or deliberately glossed over by the attempts to normalise this by saying but the bjp would have won despite SIR. there is no despite, we are in a territory we have never been in before...this does not count as an election, our process is vitiated as never before.

Electoral analysis...rests on a foundational assumption: that the electorate that voted is...the electorate that was supposed to vote. That...has been broken...in West Bengal. Any...calculation...about what people...wanted is...incomplete &...meaningless. economictimes.indiatimes.com/opinion/et-com…
