The Price of Success vs. the Cost of Success

Success is often admired for what it gives, but rarely understood for what it demands.
Success has an unusual habit of making the journey disappear.
When a young footballer steps onto the pitch for his professional debut, the moment feels sudden. The cameras capture ninety minutes. The headlines celebrate a new star. To everyone watching, it seems like the beginning.
It rarely is.
Long before the applause came, there were years of empty training pitches, repeated mistakes, quiet discipline and days when quitting would have been easier than carrying on. The debut was visible. The cost was not.
Perhaps this is where we often misunderstand success.
We speak about its price as though success can be bought with a single payment. Tuition, capital, equipment or opportunity may open the door, but they are only the price of entry.
The real cost is paid differently.
It is measured in time, patience, consistency and the willingness to continue when progress is invisible. It asks for sacrifices that never appear on a receipt and commitments that nobody applauds while they are being made.
Football reminds us of this every season. We celebrate the goal, but not the thousands of shots that missed the target. We admire the trophy, but rarely think about the years that made lifting it possible.
Life is no different.
Many people can afford the price of success. Far fewer are prepared for its cost.
