Seeing the worst takes imaginable on here about the IRA from unlettered American RWers. Irish Republicanism was not “always Marxist”, its policies changed depending on the decade and iteration; but even in its most left wing and right wing periods, it was/is a big tent.

@ubersocialdem true. but the OIRA and the INLA were both Marxist. My argument is more that organizationally republicanism was a leftist movement post 50's border campaign.

@Shizz617209 That’s correct. There were also Provisionals who would not have considered themselves socialists (and vice versa of course). The historical evidence points to a variety of views on socialism existing amongst Republicans

I'm aware that not every Republican was a socialist or communist but the reality is that after the 50s the republican movement has been dominated by leftist politics
