300,000 people die from drowning, so we ban water. But we do not talk about the billions of people who drink water safely every single day. This is the same logic governments use with technology bans. Telegram was "misused", so ban it for 150 million people. * VPNs help criminals, so ban privacy for everyone. * Social media spreads misinformation, so ban free speech. * One bad use case is reason enough to control what 150 million people can access. We treat citizens like babies. As if we cannot be trusted to make our own decisions. As if the solution to a problem is always to remove the tool rather than fix the actual problem. Someone leaked exam papers on Telegram. Did they arrest the corrupt official who sold it? No. They banned Telegram. Someone used a VPN for illegal activity. Did they prosecute the person? No. They banned VPNs. Someone spread fake news on Facebook. Did they ban misinformation? No. They banned free speech. The pattern is always the same. Find a problem. Blame the technology. Ban the tool. Problem solved? No. But control is tighter now. The real solution is hard. Banning is easy. And governments love it easy.

@Itsmycuriosity @telegram @KartiPC @NTA_Exams Yes you're right....I don't know why I was just trying to discuss when you're talking about a totally totally different topic, anyway it's a good decision govt banned telegram for a week they should ban it permanently too if that helps to avoid crimes 👍🏻

@Itsmycuriosity @telegram @KartiPC @NTA_Exams Papers are leaking at the very same place where they are being made but yet no strong action no accountability and only stupid drama of banning apps for no reason I wish you could understand this too

@Shobal_1205 @telegram @KartiPC @NTA_Exams You're comparing a fuel manufacturer to a platform that actively moderates content and publicly claims to remove violating channels. The source of the leak and the handling of channels distributing it are two different questions.

@Itsmycuriosity @telegram @KartiPC @NTA_Exams I don't think people working in the IT ministry understand how vpn works. Literally anyone can download a free vpn and access telegram even now so how exactly is the ban effective? If it's still accessible the whole point of banning means nothing

@Itsmycuriosity @telegram @KartiPC @NTA_Exams Telegram is not the only app claimed to be used for leaking of papers. Inspite of whatsapp complying fully with the govt there are reports of paper leak there as well why isn't that banned then for a week?

@Itsmycuriosity @telegram @KartiPC @NTA_Exams How is it two different questions when the source of the leak is not fixed? If you think that banning telegram would fix the paper leak issue congratulations but no one is held accountable for the source of the leak cause they haven't even found it !

Coincidence checklist: ✅ Meta owns ~10% of Reliance Jio ($5.7B investment) ✅ Meta owns 30% of Reliance’s new AI venture ✅ Reliance (AS18101) BGP-hijacks Telegram’s global traffic ✅ Modi govt bans Telegram in India using §69A IT Act; citing NEET leaks ✅ WhatsApp (Meta) is untouched throughout NEET papers leaked on WhatsApp groups too. Government blocked Telegram. Not WhatsApp. When your telecom partner owns your competitor’s killer, why would you stop the killing? This isn’t governance. It’s a business model.
Pavel Durov@durov

Indian telecom Reliance is sabotaging access to Telegram for millions of users OUTSIDE India (including the UAE) via a rogue method called BGP hijacking. The sabotage seems intentional, as Reliance has ignored multiple reports. This may be part of a competitive war, as Reliance is partially owned by Meta — the company behind WhatsApp. Network operators are advised to reject unauthorized BGP announcements from Reliance (AS18101) to prevent route hijacks and ensure stable Internet access for their users. Such abuse of global Internet routing is alarming. I wouldn’t be surprised if Reliance/WhatsApp were also behind the recent lobbying effort to ban Telegram in India.

Durov’s outrage would be more convincing if Telegram wasn’t infamous for being the internet’s favourite shelter for scammers, fraudsters, piracy networks, and criminal syndicates. India didn’t temporarily restrict WhatsApp. It restricted Telegram. There’s a reason for that. When a platform refuses to adequately cooperate and allows exam-fraud rackets to flourish during one of the country’s biggest entrance exams, it shouldn’t be surprised when authorities step in.
Pavel Durov@durov

India’s IT ministry banned Telegram for one week because some users shared leaked exam questions. This punishes 150M+ ordinary Telegram users in India — not the insiders who leaked the exam materials. And the ban hasn't stopped anything. The leaks just moved to other apps.

@Itsmycuriosity @telegram @KartiPC @NTA_Exams Seriously? If your car gets spoilt because of ethanol you will blame the petrol pumps for giving you blended fuel instead of blaming the petroleum ministry? To what extent does this go to? I'm asking assuming you're an educated person who understands what's actually happening.

@telegram @KartiPC @NTA_Exams Your mall analogy proves the opposite point. Malls aren't shut down for theft, but they don't let known thieves operate openly either. Nobody is asking Telegram to be banned , people are asking why public scam, leak, and hate channels are allowed to stay up for so long.

I'm literally tired of what's happening in our country... For God sake, We don't need andbhakts. We need deshbhakts. A politician is elected to work for the people, not to be worshipped like a king. Your loyalty should always be to India, not to any individual. If a leader performs, support them. If they fail, replace them. That's democracy. Choose Deshbhakti over Andhbhakt I... JAI HIND 🇮🇳

Oh hello, @durov Nobody is using Telegram in India for messaging. Telegram is mostly used by scammers in India. Most financial fraud (Billions of dollars) in India happens through Telegram The Indian government should have banned Telegram years ago. It is long overdue. I’ve been noticing the same pattern for years. Almost every fraudster immediately moves to Telegram. it’s harder to trace, easier to operate. Calling this an internet freedom issue misses the point completely. Telegram became one of the preferred platforms for financial fraud, scam networks, betting groups, piracy, and other illegal activities in India.
