this is not just a contradiction, it’s a script clash... i mean you can’t train someone to fear connection for a decade and then expect them to suddenly be fluent in relationships on command... social skills, discernment, emotional intelligence. those are learned through experience, not downloaded at 28 because the family clock started ticking.

my parents and i never missed church, morning mass, sunday school, midweek service, night vigil, charismatic activities, legion of mary, fasting programs and special prayer for breakthrough but no one ever taught me how money works. no one explained interest, debt, taxes, negotiation, savings or investing. i could quote scripture by heart, but at 19 i signed my first loan without understanding compounding interest. years later, i watched my father pray for financial miracles while arguing with a bank officer about penalties he didn’t know existed, my mother on the other hand tithed faithfully while borrowing money to buy groceries. it hit me one day: we were spiritually literate and financially illiterate. prepared for heaven but defenseless on earth. i’m not saying don’t teach kids faith, i’m saying it’s strange how we teach children how to pray for money… but never how to manage it when it arrives, maybe the real generational curse isn’t spiritual maybe it’s educational. if parents spent half the time teaching their kids financial literacy, financial intelligence and how money truly works instead of taking them to church every week, most generational poverty would end in one generation.

@kingsuleiman27 All naija men left the chat 🤣 this is a conversation they don’t want to have. Some will say it’s a woman’s job and when I ask a man’s job no one gives any answers cos mothers also bring in money and provide for the family.

There are many things in our upbringing that were not right, and some of us need to unlearn them in order to relearn healthier patterns. Especially when it comes to how some fathers treated our mothers. Many people grew up watching both parents leave for work at the same time and return home around the same time. In fact, sometimes the father would even drop the mother off at work on his way and pick her up afterward. Yet when they got home, the mother would head straight to the kitchen to cook and handle the household chores, while the father would grab the remote and relax watching television or going out to spend time with friends. Back then, this dynamic may have seemed normal. It may have even been widely accepted. But normal does not always mean right. Some of your mothers really suffered in the hands your fathers. Only if can they share their experiences. Helping your wife especially when both of you are exhausted from the day’s work does not make you less of a man in any way. It reflects partnership, respect, and emotional maturity. Let’s change that narrative and do better. And let’s not forget: many of these mothers contributed directly or indirectly financially to the household as well. But that’s a conversation for another day.
