@Mitchel48981334 What a fantastic idea, I definitely need to do the same thing as we need to educate the students on reducing the use of plastic and to do this, we need to show them how!

@Mitchel48981334 Living in the 21st Century, I believe the first and foremost most effective thing would be, is to move everything onto technology! Instead of students using plastic storage containers/tote trays, everything could be completed and stored on personal laptops! Also wooden desks

Looking for some ideas on how to reduce the amount of plastic used in a classroom and create a plastic free learning environment? I would love to hear of any resources used to eliminate plastic in the classroom. I believe this help everyone work towards #SG14. #UonTeach #EDUC4750

@ShonaCreighton This is exactly what my students will be doing in their project, they are creating posters on #MarinePollution and placing them at Shelly Beach in Port Macquarie. Thank you for your response!

In my unit I will be integrating World Ocean day on June 8 as a community assets. Incorporating this into my unit is an effective way to get students involved with real world issues that surround #PlasticPollution and #SDG14. Anyone else doing this? #EDUC4750

@Mitchel48981334 Most definitely! I believe schools aren’t doing as much as what they could be to develop environmental and sustainability teams. Allowing students to be involved in these teams would be a very effective idea as we need to educate the youth

@Tabartlett5 @Take3fortheSea I love how you have gone out in the community to get pictures to show your students. Linking your local community to your lessons is a fantastic idea as students could also go see them themselves. Students designing their own posters would be great to put in the community.

@CodyEdstein What a great idea incorporating other useful websites into your lessons. I can really see that this would benefit the students in so many ways. I love how you are getting the community involved and educated on the current issues in today's society.

TAKE 3 FOR THE SEA. I love this initiative. It is a great way to educate students on sdg14 and why we need to pick our rubbish up and the rubbish left behind by others. What a fantastic way to keep rubbish out of our seas. #educ4750 #sdg14 take3.org

A YouTube clip that is very engaging for primary aged students to be able to understand SDG14. I would definitely incorporate this within my unit plan as it is a great beginning video explaining the focus of the unit. Save our life below water. #educ4750 youtube.com/watch?v=pMp2ra…

@BronteDavis3 @Georgialoads Wow, I cannot believe these statistics. Our oceans most definitely do need help. Your unit sounds like it is going to be very informative, which is what we need.

Plastic is NOT Fantastic. What a catchy saying to help students remember why we should not pollute. This is an informative poster providing information on why we should not pollute our water. Animals are getting seriously hurt and are dying because of us. #educ4750 #SDG14

@BronteDavis3 ICT resources are so effective in the classroom as we are immersed in 21st Century learning. Students love learning on laptops and iPads so I believe this would be a sensational resource to use. Thanks so much for sharing

An interesting ICT resource where students can discover where plastic pollution ends up. This would be an engaging resource within the classroom and would enable students with a greater perspective on the effects of plastic pollution. #SDG14 #UoNTeach twitter.com/SamuelGannon7/…
Samuel Gannon@SamuelGannon7

Ocean CleanUp has excellent ICT resources for the classroom such as the plastic tracker. Students can use the plastic tracker to investigate where plastic pollution from their community ends up. What are other ways students can use these ICT resources? #EDUC4750 #UoNTeach #SDG14

@ShonaCreighton Informative posters are great resources when learning about SDG14! It's an excellent way to learn facts about a topic and could be recreated as a classroom lesson when teaching students. I'm loving seeing the variety of informative posters shown around SDG14

This informative poster really shows how important our oceans are by giving facts that many may not know. It is definitely time to take action before it is just too late. #educ4750 #sdg14
Zac Turner@MrZacTurner99

Students may think, why do we focus on #SDG14? The simple answer is whatever issues occur in the ocean also affect the earth as a whole and can lead to many long term issues. Over 3 billion people alone rely on the oceans to live! #uonteach #educ4750

@BronteDavis3 That's right. We need to raise awareness and share videos like this, otherwise people would not know or understand what is occurring.

This is a sickening but real video. Why are we doing this to our land, our oceans and our sea life? So close to the ocean, which makes it easy for all this plastic pollution to make its way into the water if it hasn't been washed up already. #educ4750

I absolutely love putting on short clips for students to watch. This is a great clip which contains no words but expresses the extent to which pollution has on our oceans. This allows students to infer meaning from what they are watching. #educ4750 youtube.com/watch?v=xFPoIU…

@BronteDavis3 Take 3 for the sea; a well-known, yet effective initiative. Educating students on this will help them to understand why it is important to not only pick up pollution around the sea but everywhere we go. Plastic can travel long distances with wind.

Take 3 for the sea is a powerful initiative that could be done within the school environment (playground) where students learn about the ongoing impacts of plastic pollution. #SDG14 #UoNTeach #educ4750
