BACK IN GOAL? Itumeleng Khune has sent social media into a frenzy after sharing a series of cryptic training photos from Kaizer Chiefs’ Naturena Village. The legendary goalkeeper posted images of himself in full Kaizer Chiefs training gear and back on the pitch. “Good to be back on the pitch doing what I do best,” Khune wrote on Instagram. The post immediately sparked excitement and speculation among Amakhosi supporters. Khune’s contract as a player officially came to an end after the 2023/24 season, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable 25-year journey at Naturena. At the time, Kaizer Chiefs had indicated that he would transition into a marketing and ambassadorial role. However, seeing the man affectionately known as “Spider-Kid” back in his gloves has raised fresh questions about what exactly his return means. Some supporters believe Khune may have been re-registered to help bring stability to a team that has struggled defensively. Others suspect he could be joining the technical team in a specialist goalkeeper coaching role. The 38-year-old appeared lean, sharp and match-ready in the photos, adding even more fuel to the comeback rumours. So far, neither Kaizer Chiefs nor Khune have clarified the exact nature of his return. Fans remain divided, with some calling for Khune to be given one final farewell season, while others feel the club should focus on developing younger talent.
